Euthanize fish; Where to get clove oil locally?

I don't know what's up with my starry blenny. He's by far my favorite fish. When I fed the tank last night, I was surprised he didn't come out. I found him on the sandbed breathing somewhat heavily. He pretty much just stayed there for a while & eventually made his way to the rockwork & stayed there all night. I knew he wasn't right at that point & wasn't sure what to think in the morning. Lights came on an hour ago & he was in the same spot. He's now on the sandbed & definitely doesn't look himself. His gills are moving slower now with some twitching? My other fish are all fine & healthy, so don't know whats up.

I don't have many fish & really haven't had fish loss except for a royal gramma my clowns beat up a while back, so I don't readily have clove oil. At the time I read that is the best way to euthanize fish (sounds like it should be the only way too). Where can I get clove oil locally? Publix carry it? For those who've used it, what dosage to you use?

Also open to other methods! Something humane, please.

Clove oil can be bought at the pharmacy in the oral care department. It is sold under another name, I will look it up. Buy it is in one of those toothache relief liquids.

Eugenol. Make sure it is Eugenol. It is not the brand name it is the name of the active ingredient. I have found it in the walgreens store brand. I used it to sedate my puffer for a bit of dental work.

Sounds like maybe he has flukes. Perform a freshwater dip and see if anything comes out of his gills. If it is flukes the freshwater dip will give him immediate relief.

Dang, sorry to hear it. My rainfordi goby was doing the same a week ago, he's still alive and looking way better now. Don't know what was happening to it, maybe a small micro air bubble got in its gills, don't know but maybe give your fish a couple more days. Maybe it'll heal but then again it may die in the tank and pallute the system, it'll be your call.

Thanks for the info guys. Sadly I pulled him 30 min ago. Interesting theory on flukes. It's been over 2 years since I've added a fish & don't have many as is. I'll have to read up on it. I already got rid of the him, but it looks like you can dip the dead body to confirm if it was flukes. Other thing I can think of, I think I saw him munching on a peppermint shrimp carcass the other day. He's always be picked on by the clowns during feeding time, but I always thought he was able to get his fair share.

I'll read up on the Eugenol & keep it handy.
