How quick does water evaporate from a tank. I have only had mine full to the top for 3 days (skimmer and pump running) and I would say its down a good 1/2 inch maybe a hair less. Its visable now below the rim of the tank.

that seems quick to me

How quick does tank water evaporate?

I would say that in your case water is evaporating at a rate of 0.167 inches per day (0.5 inches/3 days).

Yes I can also add but is that normal.? I was thinking it would be much slower. I was suprised when I came home today and water was doen below the top rail of the tank.

It depends on how much you run you air conditioner, and what the humidity is already in your area.

wow a gallon a day. OK I wasn't expecting that. I dont remember my fish only tank losing that much. of course this tank is not on level floor so it is really noticable when the water is not toped off behind the top of the tank rim..

Evaporation rate depends on a number of factors - water temp, air temp, surface area, relative humidity, fans, covers, etc.

With a 250g tank, nearly 300g of total water in the system. With 81-82F water, 75-78 air temps, 50% indoor humidity, no fans, I only evaporate a little over a gallon a day.

sounds like everything is fine then. I just wasn't expecting it. I added 2 gal's and it filled right to the rim. So I lost 2 gal's in 3 days. not bad

i do 3 gallon top-offs every 2-3 days on my 130 gallon tank. i dont have any cover on my tank save for the canopy.

With chiller running 5 gallons every 4 days. Without the chiller and using fans on timers and a Ranco controller, 6 gallons every other day.
