Even seen an eagle hop?

I thought this was a good picture :) He was taking a little hop instead of walking through the snow.

Yep, once every couple months I take a trip down to Homer and usually see a lot of eagles. I've gotten some neat pictures with my 50D.

This was with my bro's 100mm macro lens. I took some with my 24-70 but most of the time I was at 70mm and wanting more so I switched to the 100mm.

Nice Recty. It seems a bit odd at first because the eagle is in mid air but the wings are not outstretched. I love seeing whatelse my favorite camera and lens can do!

Thanks!

Here's some more from the weekend... you can see a lot of the eagles are kind of off white or gray where they should be just white. A local volcano has been erupting pretty steady for the last 2-3 weeks, Mt. Redoubt, so there is a lot of ash in the area and it's tainting the eagles feathers.

And this is some little red headed bird, not sure what it is...

It's a Canon 50D.

Most of my outside stuff is handheld. Well, all this series is, none of it is on a tripod.

I only use a tripod when it's low lighting conditions most of the stuff I'm shooting is moving around enough that if I had to stay in one spot with a tripod I'd have a hard time getting the shots.

Love the second one in the second post. Always find it difficult to get them in that orientation. Nice job. I hear they tore down Jean Keene's place. End of an era. Used to love going down there every winter. Actually saw an Ermine there last time (about a month ago).

Yep, that's about the only good picture I've got of the eagles back while in a dive. I've got millions of them from the stomach side. It's rare to get one of the top. I took it from a deck about 15 feet off the ground is why I got it :)

Yep, they tore down the eagle lady's place, too bad. You wont see that again in Alaska or pretty much anywhere.

That would be a Male Common Redpoll a common bird for the area they migrate down to the northern states and Canada in winter.

Nice Eagle shots good variety.Would have been better to have more detail in and on the wings instead of a dark void on the undersides. Easier said than done I know, but makes for better Avian shots.

Thanks for the info on the bird.

You probably need to calibrate your monitor, you should be seeing plenty of texture under the wings.

As a matter of fact I did just get a new monitor last week I did some adjusting and it does look better I can see better detail on the wings, I guess its just me being spoiled with a great Eagle winter this last season getting shots like these, This is what I mean by detail :

Yeah, you had some nice work with the sun there, I was unfortunately taking from an angle where the subject was between me and the sun.
