"Ever seen a clown fish do opera?" And other new pics...

Got tubes?
Hi all!

FINALLY got a decent camera (Nikon D50)! Still lots of learning and probably lots of lenses to do and get. :D

Anyway, I was snapping some pictures real quick before work and got this one... My male ocellaris does opera!

Nice Pics Brandon.... I too am looking for a camera currently, the D40 was on my list, but I think the D50 or D60 come with 2 lenses.

Your dragonet looks good, how long has your tank been setup?

The D40 is a great camera as well. The biggest difference is that the D50 can accept more lenses, but its not a huge deal. Just about any of the cameras are available in a kit that includes two lenses... thats not model dependent FWIW. :)

My tank has been up almost a year... there are still amphipods EVERYWHERE! He can't eat them all apparently! :) Plus he eats frozen copepods from San Francisco Brand (The Critter and EBay both carry them...).

Thanks crmartinez. :)

Brandon - I agree with ocd_mariner on the ORA German Blue. On the neon green one, I'd ask Gary. It looks a lot like a coral I got from him (which grows pretty similar to a pocillipora), but I don't think it is. I'm having a big brain fart on the name...

Cool deal... thanks guys. :)

I got the ORA German Blue from Steve. The pink/green polyped one I got from "Chelsea" (sp?) at the swap for helping with her tank. I also got two of the ones beside it... the blue and red one, which I think are milles, but I'm no 100%. They're really awesomely red and blue, though. :) And there's two acros there, too. Any ideas on the red and blue ones? Also, my wife got some AWESOME shots of the mandarin... apparently she sparked his interest or ticked him off because he was flaring up for the camera... it was funny.

I'll get some of those posted soon, along with probably a lot more now that I'm home from work and don't have any school work to do or tests to study for. :D

Ok, humor me guys and gals. I finally got to play again. :D

I think this mini brittle star is hungry... and thats ok because I'm about to feed for the evening.

Good shot of the clam.

Here are the zoanthids that I got the day of the swap that I was so excited about... they definitely don't look completely the same as they did, but they are still nice. I love the colors. They're not super distinct, but it starts with green tipped skirt, light blue, purple, red, orange, purple, light blue. They've grown quite a bit, too! There were only 3 polyps when I got them out of the zero-edge tank. Mark, this ones for you! :D

Another decent shot of the clowns.

This SPS is such a beautiful, rich blue... I love it! Any idea what it is?

And its red counter part... (this pic doesn't do it justice)

These are a new hitchhiker that are a BEAUTIFUL iridescent green over blue type deal... I'll have to turn them a bit to get a better picture.

This is the best I could get of my porcelain crab hanging out behind the rockwork. He's at the same spot every single night hanging upside down and eatin'.

Sorry its a bit blurry. Slow shutter speeds and no tripod (its on its way, though) = blurry pics. :)

Last but not least, a decent pic of my frogspawn.

Still some practice to do. I need to work on my DOF and working the lens a bit. I also need a macro lens! :D

Anyway, thanks for looking!

Brandon

Thanks Brian. I am really happy with my tank right now. Things are growing well and looking GREAT!

One last one for tonight... I love these zoas. Not quite as clear, but you can see the colors a bit better. Forgive my horrible Photoshop *cough*GIMP*cough* skills (IE, the white frame ;) ).

Wow! What perfect timing. My peppermint shrimp decided to give birth tonight.

I looked up from my wonderful game of Rollercoaster Tycoon (the original ;) ) and saw white spots... I thought the other day that one of my peppermint shrimp looked a little more beefy than normal and figured she was carrying. When I saw these spots, I pretty much knew right then it was baby shrimp... and it was! So I turned off all of my pumps and snapped some pics since I finally can now.

Just thought some of you may be interested!

Here are two pics:

Just thought I would share! I love it when this happens. Its so fascinating. I wish I could raise 'em... but its not really even worth trying. Maybe some will make it down to the sump ok and make it... though I doubt it. Lots of competition for food. If nothing else, a free snack for my fish!

Brandon

Nice Brandon, thanks so much for sharing all those pics, and your tank really is looking pretty sharp, and so are your pictures.

Isn't it cool when the peps release the little guys?! We had it happen a ton of times about a year back when we had the peppermint harem going on. And you hit the nail on the head about raising them - it's damn near impossible. We tried with a few different rounds and I think we managed to keep one little guy living for about a month and a half and then he died too. Would be awesome to figure it out, but it certainly is a major PITA...

Thanks Norman! :)

Moriah:

Yeah, it is extremely cool! One time I was right by the tank when she did it... she swap to the top of the aquarium, splashed to knock them off I suppose, and then swam back down! It was really neat.

I think it was actually you guys who told me last time that they were harder than crap to raise. I would love to try to raise cleaner shrimp as the payoff would be much greater, but its all good. I can't imagine the let down after a month and a half, though! That would STINK!

Speaking of pitas, have you ever had pita chips? My wife got some from her boss that were garlic parmesan. Great stuff!

(ok, its time for lunch :D )
