it just started growing in my tank. grows in places with NO light, like in the sump and on the underside of rocks. i hate having stuff i dont understand in there and i started with base rocks to aavoid this kind of thing. i only started dosing MB7 a month or so ago and stopped after a week. only other thing is i had a seed rock for coraline in there for 2 days. i have had tank established for more than a year but added mb7 to try to help coral growth and seed rock to get some purple in there. after 2 days i just scraped off some coraline and tossed that seed rock. now coraline is popping up everywhere.

but what is that CRAP! and how do i get rid of it. it's stubborn and does not come off easily.

looks like pineapple sponges that you took out of the water.

they are not harmful, and actually probably are somewhat beneficial in the sense that they are sponges, and do filter feed from the water.

get a picture of them while they are submerged. they look kinda funny out of water, and i cant be 100% sure

thanks both i really do appreciate response. but ummm....

so what do i / can i do about it if i dont want it? glad they are harmless.... do you think this more likely came from Mb7 or from seed rock / snails i added?

since you all gave me the name i have been doing some reading on them and searching what can be done to get rid of them. so far seems like lmiting nutrients and direct light exposure, and better skimming

curious if anyone knows where they came from based on above posts.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want it gone? They are part of almost everyone's tank, don't harm anything, and pretty much stick to out of the way places. It is like saying how do I get rid of pods. Not picking on you, just curious what makes you want to get rid of them.

It could have come in on anything you put in the tank, it's a common hitchhiker.

The only way to keep "things you don't know what they are" out of your tank is to never put anything in it...no rock, no coral, no snails. Virtually anything you put in your tank, especially corals and rock, are going to bring in something else. It's all part of the ecosystem. Tanks aren't sterile, controllable systems!

they don't hurt anything, just are ugly lol. I have tons of them on my LR and in my sump. I figure they help to clean my tank :)

they are common and nothing to worry about. They scrape off easily too. I noticed them the moment I put fiji mud in my fuge. Now they are everywhere including the inside of my skimmer :/
