Hello! So my name is Andrew (EvilChicken) and I have been addicted to my saltwater tank for about 2 and a half years. Living in an apartment had limited my tank selection for the time but my ambishus goals are to move to a 100+ gallon tank once I move into a home of my own.
So a little bit about how I got into the hobby. About 3 years I bought my first 10 gallon tank and started a fresh water tank. But the fish stores saltwater section looks SO much prettier! So I began research into nano saltwater setups to start a 10g saltwater tank. The tank wasn't even done cycling by the time I realized that I NEEDED to go bigger. SO I ventured to a 37 tall tank. Trying to keep cost manageable as I am a broke college student. I also bought my first paired of true percula clownfish. They were just little fish then, but as my addiction grew, so did the size of the tank again. I now am sitting with a beautiful 55g tank that houses the same 2 clownfish from 2 and a half years ago and several other accomplishments that I never thought I would still have. Here is the list of what I have:
Reef Octopus Skimmer, 2 Hydor Koralia Powerheads, Digital Aquatics Reef Keeper Lite, DIY LED Lighting with 36 (12w/24rb) LED's
A quick note before I have fun with the pictures, I built the LED lighting about 8 months ago after extensive research about size, output, building, pros/cons, and just about everything in between. In the 8 months since I built it, I can tell you that everything in my tanks has grown 10x more than I ever expected. Power consumption has dropped, and heat from and around the tank has also dropped. I am so so happy with the build and the results. Strongly consider LED's if you have the chance. My LED build cost me around $300-$400 after everything was done. I don't have exact amount in front of me either.
So now the best part of the post!
