Examples of Closed loop, no overflow box, rimless cubes?

Hi everyone, I'm starting a new tank, been out of the hobby for 8 years
I'm trying to go for a very minimalist look, with almost no equipment showing in the display. My plan is:

- 40-50g shallow rimless cube
- sump
- closed loop doesn't go to the sump, just using it to avoid powerheads
- herbie return hidden in the islands of rockwork
- no overflow box in the display
- AND plan to put everything in the stand...

this might seem crazy, but just wondering if anyone has tried it, or has links to any similar builds. I plan to stock the tank, with in mind that my flow isn't going to be as good, etc. so low bioload and just maybe some softies here and there.

any info is much appreciated!

I don't have any links handy but I've seen tanks like that. Absolutely no reason it wouldn't work if you have the needed holes drilled.

I've seen it a few times always in larger tanks but there is no reason it will not work in a small tank. Because of the friction loss most of us use in-tank powerheads because they are more efficient and generally cost less on a GPH basis, but if you don't want visable powerheads your plan will certainly work.

Ah ok, its good to know its not a completely terrible idea! I should start looking at some plumbing threads, haven't done anything really complex like this before
