Excited...

I received the shipment of fish today (order A2611861). The scarlet cleaner shrimp did not make it through the shipping. I still acclimated him but it was pretty obvious that he was not alive.

The blue hippo tang seems to have a white spot on his head just in front of his dorsal fin. It is ~1mm and if it is a fungus or a parasite. I currently have him in a separate QT tank.

Please let me know what I need to do from here concerning the loss of the cleaner shrimp. If you have any ideas on what this spot might be from my vague description let me know.

From this order the flame angel, mandarin, and sailfin blenny went to my brother in-law. The flame angel and the mandarin aren't looking too promising at this point in time.

I think the entire shipment of livestock went through a pretty rough ride. The styrofoam box was broke and the bag that the frogspawn was in was leaking.

The frogspawn was in two pieces was this the way it was shipped or did it break in transit?

Poisonous Yeti,

Thank you for your inquiry. We sincerely apologize for the loss of the Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, as well as for the specimens that were not received in satisfactory condition. A credit for the cost of the Shrimp and Frogspawn Coral has been placed on your file, which you may use on a future order. If you would prefer to have this amount issued back to your credit card, please let us know.

Additionally, we are sorry to hear about the condition of the Flame Angel, Mandarin, and the Blue Hippo Tang. If you would please PM or e-mail us a picture of the Tang, we would be happy to help determine its condition and find treatment suggestions. We also ask that you please closely monitor these specimens for improvement. We appreciate you keeping us posted on the status of these fish.

Update:

The lawnmower blenny (in my brother in-law's tank), the two clownfish, and the blue tang are doing extremely well. I believe the tang had a mild case of lymphocystis which has completely disappeared after treating with Maracyn II as directed by LA to do so. I'm not sure if the Maracyn or the decrease in stress / increase in nutrition is what made it go away but it did.

I am going to treat the tang for ich with hyposalinity. I have noticed a few subtle white spots on the fish's body but never more than one or two at a time. It's fairly difficult to tell whether or not it is actually ich when it isn't showing a severe outbreak.

This treatment is safe and won't cause any harm to the fish if performed properly, correct? I'd just hate to have this fish in QT for 4+ weeks and then add him/her to the DT only to find out that (s)he actually did have a mild case of ich.

Poisonus Yeti,

At this time we recommend keeping an eye on the fish and the water parameters to ensure that the fish is healthy and does not show further symptoms of Ich. Treatment is not typically recommended unless the fish shows true signs of illness.

If you have further questions please feel free to contact us.

I will do what you recommend and I'll keep an eye on him before I administer any treatment. Thank you again for your help and I'll keep you posted if I see any definitive signs.
