Heard through the grapevine that Exotic Aquarium's lease ran out, and that they're closing down. Anyone been there the last couple of days?? Any news on this??
Hard to belive that they made it this long. It's where I bought my "reef ready" tank with neon lighting....how little I knew then. Since that time three years ago it's steadily gone down hill with sick looking fish and half dead coral.

All the debate about DSB and BB and they tried to prove everybody wrong by going with a DDB - Deep Detritus Bottom - tank. I swear their coral tank has about 3 inches of detritus sitting on the bottom.
i agree not the greatest store around and most of people there seem to not know what there talking about. If their are closing i wonder if there going to be alot of mark down items?
Actually, no. I haven't been there in about 4 weeks, and with the price of gas the way it is right now, I would rather burn the precious petrolium driving down to Aquatic Gallery in Milpitas, or Mermaid Aquarium in Freemont. Every time I go to Exotic, my worst expectations are confirmed. They treat you like a theif and really don't have any reason that I can see to do so (e.g. nothing worth stealing).
As far as discounted tanks go, the mark-up on tanks and salt is something like 10%. Hence the lack of a club member discount on those items. If they go belly up, I wouldn't expect to see any HUGE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE from them.
But you never know.....
This just in: Skilters, 100% off!
Translation: Free Junk = junk you didn't have to pay for but still takes up space in your garage
Went there today and they are moving to a larger building on Franklin Blvd (I think it is 6643). They have signs posted all over the front doors saying they are moving at the end of June because they have outgrown the space they are in. They want a larger space to be able to serve their customers better.
Not sure the space is the problem. I am in there all the time and the customer service is horrid. They definitely are getting rid of their stock as the new tank selection has diminished quite a bit.
This may sound wrong but my friend told me that exotic got in trouble....They were supposedly selling illegal merchandise or livestock....(Corals)....and were reported to some sort of beter business bureal or authorities....Perhaps this is true or not but it sounds like a reason to think about.....
what makes you think the customer service is going to change when they move. From what it has looked like to me for the past couple of years, the owners don't really care too much.
