Expected noise from a 6080? rattle?

I bought a Turbelle 6080 today and it is making a noise I am not used to. I'm not sure if its good or bad so I'm asking the expert. The noise is hard to describe but its kind of like metal on metal. Its a high frequency tick / buzzing / rattle sound. I have heard the same noise on a cheap powerhead when the cover was a little lose which allowed the impeller to rattle a little.

The only reason it bugs me is because it is the loudest thing in my tank.

Is this a typical noise?

No, it sounds like the bush bearing is loose, this is common on new pumps and it happens in shipping. Just open the pump and push in the bearing and it should reduce it, the rest of the noise should go away after a 2 week wear in.

I pushed the bush bearing in with my thumb and there was no change in the rattle. Should I give it a light tap with a hammer or just let it go and see if it goes away?

Try prying it out and rotate it 180 and reinsert it. I wouldn't tap it with a hammer, just a firm push.
