Expensive fish

My most expensive fish was an Imperator angelfish at $90. Thats about the most I would spend. much more and it is too much of a risk as the fish will, with my luck, die.

my whole perspective of expensive fish have changed since i can get pretty much anything at very low costs! But there is still always a price margin that i wont cross because of the risk. Dead fish aren't worth anything, rare or not :)

At the local store I used to run we had a 21" White Tipped Reef Shark. I think wholesale it was $650 plus another $400-500 to ship since the box weighed 150 lbs.

He was pretty cool.

A store by me that is known for overpricing everything had a rhinopias scorpion for $1200 I think for the longest time...I doubt anyone ever bought it.

My lfs has had a purple one for over a year! And they still wont budge on the $1200 price tag!!!

We have a fish store that gets $100-150 wrasses in quite often and they sell pretty quick. Sure are beautiful fish though.

The most expensive fish that i've seen was a show size albino undulate trigger--also the most beautiful fish i've ever seen. It went for 3500. Conspic angels are interesting because the bigger ones are actually cheaper than the smaller ones. I saw a juvenile 2-3 inches go for $2000. How about this though, show red carpet that went for 1200.

I really do not understand why someone would pay a few hundred dollars for one fish! I dont care how rare it is. A fish is a fish. Rare or not no fish should cost over $100. I guess people liek to have a "rare" fish so that they can brag about it. Just because its rare it doesnt mean that they are better. A good example is a black tang. It costs anywhere from $250-$500. Its just a yellow tang that is black. I think the yellow ones even look better. Maybe I'm just cheap.

Prized KOI in Asia go for $2000 and more all the time.

Not that I would (or could)go that route. $44 for a regal tang is tops in my tank right now

if i was going to pay 1.5 k for a fish i sure as hell wouldnt mail order it, as good as live aquaria is, thats a lot of money for one fish and deffinitly not worth risking a loss. if i had that kinda money to toss around i would have one awsome tank though

maybe some people like paying alot for a fish because it is cnet have to something in your tank, that is rarely seen. I paid 300 for my black tang and have no regrets. I love him to death.

horned hawaiian eel?? Isn' that just a regular dragon? they are all "horned". 3500 for a dragon is on the expensive side though.

I have seen a black tipped shark for $5000.The shark was about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long.I have seen some fish priced at $2000 or less but the shark was to most expensive.I can understand why people would want a rare fish if it has amazing colors but I to think to pay $300 to $500 for a fish is alot of money.I guess if someone had a large fish that they raised from a baby and wanted to sell for a profit, the amount of time and care they put into it it would be fare to demand a larger sum of money. If someone drops a net catches 100 fish and says this is worth this amount and thats worth that amount then its a differant ballgame.Less effort to catch a wildfish and place a price tag on it.Supply and demand if people wouldn't pay larges sums of money then the fish and corals would be cheaper.I also don't agree with people buying very rare fish just for the fact that the species is hard to keep in captivity or for the lack of the species.

the most i have paid is $24 for my jawfish....the most i am willing to pay is $100 for a laboutes fairy wrasse.....the highest i have seen at me LFS is $500 for a crosshatch
