Experience with Naoko's wrasse's aggression.

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in buying a Naoko's wrasse at my LFS, and was doing a bit of research online before spending that much money, when a few people mentioned that it can get very aggressive as it gets older. I'm wondering if those of you who own them can give me a bit of insight on how your Naoko's wrasse has been behaving, and if adding one early (I still intend on adding 3-4 more fish after the Naoko) is a bad idea.

My current tank is a 6 foot, 100 gallon tank.

Right now the fish I have are:

- Ruby head wrasse
- Ornate Leopard wrasse
- Royal Gramma
- 2 clownfish
- Hippo tang
- Borbonius Anthias.

In the future, I plan to add a Lineatus, Labouti, Hooded wrasse, possibly a yellow tang (not sure yet). Maybe one more fish, depending on whether or not my system can handle it.

Do you guys think adding a Naoko right now would be a bad idea? considering their tendency to become aggressive?

Any thoughts are much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I'm leaning towards passing on the Naoko right now, from further reading. I think it should be one of the last fish that I add in my aquarium. Better to be safe than sorry in this hobby.

Thats a good idea. I read the same thing about their aggression. Thats the only reason I don't have one in my tank.

Passing for now is the safe move for sure, especially with the desire to add more wrasses later.

Aggression is a bit of a coin toss with the species; they tend to be pretty angry or not too bad - not much in-between.

My naokoae likes to scare my pulcherimus. But they just go by side and anything is fine. I introduce a Cirrhilabrus jordani and a Cirrhilabrus solorensis half year after naokoae. No problems. Just a half year later naokoae start to chase the solorensis sometimes. But nothing bad happens until yet. With borbonius no problems.

Hmm.

Okay as I was estimating, it seems to be a coin toss, similar to a dwarf angel with corals type of deal. As things go with coin tosses in this hobby, I have bad luck (had a coral eating foxface lol!). Also considering catching the naoko if it veers to the dark side will be a very difficult task, it's better to not take a chance at this point.

Thanks for helping me decide, I appreciate your input.
