Experiences with the Hooded Fairy Wrasse

I'd like to acquire a pair of these beauties for my 125 FOWLR.

There isn't much info out there and I want to know more about them before I spend the money.

Specifically:

are they hardy
How easy they are to feed
are they boisterous or timid
how long have people kept them
do they get along with other wrasses

this and any other information would be much appreciated

I'm sure eveyone would love to see pics as well.

Beautiful fairy wrasse but very timid also. They don't come out nearly as much as the other wrasses. They do very well with the others also.

Hooded fairy wrasses, Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus, are one of my favorite fairies. I've kept 2. They startle easily. I lost one that jumped up and konked its head on the light shield. The other one might have jumped on me but I've since removed that possibility with a 1/4 inch screen cover. They are a little timid at first but still come out quite a bit and are peaceful with other fish. They are a deeper water species so they need some acclimation to brighter tanks but they seems to adjust fine. They are great eaters and hold their colors well. They seem to be harder to find in the last year or so.

The short experience I had with a hooded fairy wrasse was that they are indeed quite timid and mine was never able to compete with the rest of the tank for food and ended up perishing because of it. Would I get another, probably not, but that is because I prefer more active fish. Given time it might have become a very interesting fish. They are beautiful!

I had a pair for about a year and a half and they were really quite nice, they ate very well everything from flake, pellets and all frozen foods. They did spook pretty easily but they got along well with my other wrasses, Leopard, Rhomboid.
Lost the male to a launch out of the tank.

Still have the female and am waiting to get another male to add to her.

Had a male for 6 months. Same experience. hardy fish, liked to hide. Like every other fairy wrasse I have owned. Jumped out of the tank. Only keep these type of fish in a covered tank or they will jump put!!!

If everyone covered their tanks when they bought wrasses, they would be half the cost.

It would be nice to see a warning sign printed on them saying something like. " Beware, we like to fly"

amen to that...there is no ifs about it you have to have a top with holes 1/4 or smaller unless you like haveing crispy fish
