Extending wires?

I'm setting up my new 300g with a fishroom below in the basement. The ballasts for the MH's are upstairs and the wire for the powerbar won't reach. Also I need to extend the wire for my simu-L stick. Can I use just a phone cable extension or would that throw something off?

would 6p6c phone cable work? (6 pin, 6 core)

You require cable VSL-5 this is approx 15feet long (5 metres) and can be extended to 50 feet.
