So i have a M60 and all the stuff that comes with it (Skimmer, Light, Pumps..) is it worth buying an external filter that sit at the bottom of my cabinet. Are they worth it or not make much of a difference??
Typically mechanical filtration is not needed/not beneficial/not worth it provided you have sufficient rock/bacterial populations..
They are more of a maintenance burden than anything else..

Assuming you are referring to a canister filter, about the only thing they are good for on a typical reef system to provide a place to put carbon or similar media. Even then, keeping them clean enough that they don't end up adding to the problems you are trying to fix can be difficult.
I wouldn't buy a Canister filter either, but something like an Aquaclear HOB filter can be a great tool to have. I run a little bit of carbon in mine and when I do a water change and really stir things up I'll add a few sponges. Once the water is clear I'll remove these and give them a good rinse under the faucet. Piece of cake.
