lfs got this female swallowtail angel in today. I walked past her and noticed the eye while looking at other fish. The worker seen it and told her manager who said to kill it and toss it. I couldn't help it, so I got her at cost for 18 bucks. Is this popeye or just a bruise/bump from being moved today?

It is only the one eye and it is not cloudy at all.

Dont worry her eyes, its a disease, it will cure automatically if your water condition is ecxelent, only you need to put some live rock so that fish can hide and if u have "microbacter sp" then use it four times in a week, this disease needs 15 to 30 days to recover.

Best of luck

I agree withe the above posts. As nasty as it looks, I've seen a couple cases of popeye and both cleared up with just a good diet & good water.
BTW, If he was just going toss the fish, he shouldn't have charged you more than a dime---to cover the cost of the idiot's bag. This thread is a prime example of why good lfs are disappearing and online dealers are thriving. (At least online dealers don't tell customers about destroying fish.)

This fish is in QT and I generally don't use LR in QT. But if it will help in this case as it is a eye injury and I don't have to run a bunch of meds, I can do it.
I was trying to talk them down more but I'd rather spend the 18 over watching it die and I did nothing.

Great rescue. I had a Qt with a few fishes and a pearlecnse butterfly fish. He developed pop-eye in the right eye and I setup another QT for him by himself. With better water quality, it healed itself in a week.

Good luck.

Good water quality usually clears up buy itself. I had a fish get pop-eye while in QT and realized my water was getting bad and after a water change it was back to normal in a week. If its not better in a week you should use meds. I have seen fish loose an eye or go blind in that eye if left untreated for too long.

I noticed to.ichthyologist while feeding three distinct air bubbles around the eye. This is making me think it is getting worse. Getting ready to do a 50% water change now. Time for meds?

Okay I'm not sure what a ichthyologist is, but I do love auto spell.

Is maracyn 2 specifically for fresh OR salt? All I seem to find is labeled for fresh. I picked up furan 2 and metro + tonight. Either of these worth a shot? I'm doing 50% water changes every other night too.

The bubbles seem to have gone down after another water change. I finally found the maracyn2 for salt tonight too and picked it up just in case. It has been a week now, meds or just wait?
