My husband just told me that he noticed one of my Chalk basslets had what looked to be popeye.
I only got a quick glance (as he swam back into the rockwork)
of his eye from above as his affected eye was facing the rocks.
All I could see was that it is huge and there is another bubble (small on resembling the size of bubble algae) above the eye.
From what I saw, it looks awful, and painful.
My husband said that it was NOT cloudy. I have Melafix on hand. Should I go ahead a treat this in the main display? (have used before when one of my chalks has a fin fungus)
I don't believe that I will be able to catch this bugger either to treat in QT. I have too much rockwork and corals.
All my params are in check (I did a 10-15g water change two days ago in the 55g to lower nitrates from 40-yikes!) Temp is 82.SG, 1.025
I also get alot of evap and yesterday evening my SG was 1.028. I added RODI over the period of 1 1/2 hrs as to lower it slowly.
Also, the basslets are constantly showing their dominance with eachother. Could he have banged his eye against the rocks or been hurt by another basslet?
Or could the water change have done this? I use RODI, buffered, and prepared 24hrs in advance.
There are ALOT of variables here, but advise on to treat or not to treat will be helpful. All I have is Melafix.
