eye protruding huge bubble

My husband just told me that he noticed one of my Chalk basslets had what looked to be popeye.

I only got a quick glance (as he swam back into the rockwork)
of his eye from above as his affected eye was facing the rocks.

All I could see was that it is huge and there is another bubble (small on resembling the size of bubble algae) above the eye.
From what I saw, it looks awful, and painful.

My husband said that it was NOT cloudy. I have Melafix on hand. Should I go ahead a treat this in the main display? (have used before when one of my chalks has a fin fungus)

I don't believe that I will be able to catch this bugger either to treat in QT. I have too much rockwork and corals.

All my params are in check (I did a 10-15g water change two days ago in the 55g to lower nitrates from 40-yikes!) Temp is 82.SG, 1.025

I also get alot of evap and yesterday evening my SG was 1.028. I added RODI over the period of 1 1/2 hrs as to lower it slowly.

Also, the basslets are constantly showing their dominance with eachother. Could he have banged his eye against the rocks or been hurt by another basslet?

Or could the water change have done this? I use RODI, buffered, and prepared 24hrs in advance.

There are ALOT of variables here, but advise on to treat or not to treat will be helpful. All I have is Melafix.

If you don't treat, it usually will result in the loss of the eye. If you can remove to a quarantine tank and treat with furan2 or maracyn2. If you can't, melafix in the display can be used. Stop skimming whlie treating. Clown fish are sensitive to melafix. They react to it a little. It passes rapidly.

I have the same problem with my damsel. His eye was fine yesterday and today it very noticeably bulging.

The damsel is in a 220 gal and I know that it will be impossible to catch him for QT.

Malafix is safe to treat the display tank?
Is popeye contagious? I think the damsel may have bin attacked by a banded shrimp while sleeping.

under closer observation I just noticed what looks to be a small cut at the top of the eye. In the popeye being as a result of an attack should I still treat the display with melafix?

I actually got a better look at that eye and it is protruding alot and has TWO smaller bubbles around it. What could have caused this? Is this popeye, or something else? Looks awful, but he still is eating. He also hides and keeps himself away from the other 2 basslets. Maybe he was harassed and hurt his eye. ???
I will treat with 1/2 dose maracyn. I don't have a skimmer but I will have to remove my carbon. The last time I treated with Maracyn, I didn't notice that my clowns were reacting to it. But to play it safe, I will use 1/2 strenght this time.

Crumbs-
Yes. You can use maracyn and pimafix in your tank (both at the smae time if needed.) I used both of them when my basslet had a fin fungus. It took about 2 weeks to treat. Make sure to do the required water changes as well. It won't harm your corals or inverts. I think it is the only thing out there that can be used in your displays.

Thanks customanimalart,

I just adden MelaFix to my tank. I hope it was the right thing to add...

I had my skimmer set right at the lowest point which is water level on a 5 ft skimmer and it exploded overflowing right away!

I didnt want to have any dead spots in the skimmer without water flow for seven days but this stuff is like bubble bath!

I hope it works ive had this Damsel for 8 months since my original setup and his eye is big.

Lower the skimmer just to aerate the water. Popeye is the result of an injury that leads to a bacterial infection. If not treated it will lead to the loss of the eye. I prefer to remove to a QT and treat with Furan2 or Maracyn2. Melafix should help clear up the condition. Unless you want to treat your display with conventional antibiotics.
