Ya we were thinking about that that is why there is a ball valve on the wall for the return so you can reduce the flow. That is also a nice thing about plastic sumps we can add another bulkhead any time. He may also pump some water out of the sump and go into some frag tanks he has two now and by the time he is done he will probably have more. Just don't tell him that.

Looking good. My question is also on the dursos. Are they not alittle deep in in the overflow? That's going to be quite abit of noise with the water falling so far. Just trying to help and ask...

Glad we didn't glue them we will have to fine tune that maybe I know I played with mine for a while before I got them right. We just need to have a water party I think Jason gets a Keg and everyone brings 5 Gal of salt water and we could test all of it out.

OK, I'm in, 5 gallons of NaCl for 5 gallons of beer.

REMINDER, and don't forget........DRILL HOLE IN DUROSO!, and give it a plastic air inlet line above highest possible water level! Been there done that, it was not pleasant. I would rethink those 2 90's in a row and go with a tee with an extension and a pipe cap (as mentioned before).

And for what it is worth, I'm in with Gflat. Watch the in's-vs-out's.

As my tank has aged, it's out's are not up to it's in's with no parameters changed (they were initially). If possible oversize the out's, for what ever reason they always slow over time.

Just had to tear down my right side out line because it could not keep up. My overflow kept filling to a non-flow point. I found nothing, but it was slower than it should have been (or was for that matter). I replaced all 90's with double 45's and it helped, but the right side is still quirky.

Both my out's are reduce by 1/2" from possible max size, and I'm now thinking about a total rebuild of the outlet side to go to max size.

This far down the road, it's a PITA at best. Do it now, before time (and hassles) catch up with you. Make drain lines as big as possible, don't reduce them. Outlet controls are a piece of cake, but reducing you're inlet flow causes mental anguish.

Best case, you can up the inlet flow, as is my case, you have to reduce their flow for some time produced (unknown) reason.

PLEASE; all responses to this opinion should be started in a new thread, I don't want to take this one over.

Somehow, I just know people will have opinions. :)

waynesworld:

I'm there, just let me know, but see my last post. In my opnion don't reduce outlet flow diameter (from what is possible), for whatever reason, it slows!
I was a Mechanical engineer (in my past life) not a Hydrolic, but I know what I have seen over time.

As the pics show, there are 2-1 1/2 lines for overflows not one. There are ball valves under the tank and also in the basement for adjusting the levels. As for when he cleans the skimmer, there are also ball valves near the pump for cutting the volume of up flow while the skimmer is apart. Also the MRC does not have to be completely shut down to clean. Only if you are cleaning the becketts the water is not flowing through it. The adjustment valve on the skimmer slows the bubbles but still lets the flow of water through.

Looks really good....but confusing. I don't think I could ever have a setup like that...

Steve
thats what we all think then it turns into childs play. I was thinking my 500 gallon was never gonna get done but the plumbing was actually the easiest of all . the hard part now is filling it up with water and then the fish and coral. It never ends lol

Wow! What a setup! Good going!
Jason, it was great meeting you at the meeting! You are hilarious! I love reading your posts, too--usually gives me a laugh. You know, people are right...you don't look anything like "your picture" on the forum---ha ha.
