Fair price for sailfin?

I have a sailfin tang that's grown too big for my tank. He's currently pushing between 8-9" long and I only have a 90 gallon. I'm planning to find him a new home, but I'm stuck on what a fair asking price for a mature Desjardinii Sailfin would be. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

Thanks!

i paid 45.00 for the same size regular sailfin. Problem is.. i'm sure your more concerned with getting him a bigger better home than making money. I'd say 60.00 is fair if he is going to a much larger tank

The person that's interested in him has a 300 gallon tank. He'll be more than happy in a home like that. I *hate* to see him go after more than 4 years of having him, but I know what's best for him. He's such an attention whore and probably the coolest fish I have, personality wise. To me, he's priceless. My LFS has these guys occasionally for $50. That'll get you a juvie about 3" long. I had no idea what to price a mature guy at.

I'm gonna cry when he goes, I just know it. 3 out of the 5 fish in that tank need to go because they're all pushing the line. The blue tang I have is about 5-6" and the foxface rabbitfish is about 6".

think of it as you getting reimbursed for his purchase price and him going to a great home :)

or you could always just get a biggger tank and keep him ;)

I have one sailfin in my 90 and he is pushing about 4 1/2 and gaining quick. I might be getting rid of him soon about a year or maybe less. I think for a 8-9 in sailfin i think 60-75 is a reasonable price.

I tried this. I have a 90g fowler, 75g reef and a 30g freshwater. I'm picking up a nano tonight and when I presented the "honey, let me build a 300g so I can have a stingray, I got "the look". Maybe I should have started with a 150? LOL

hmmm maybe you can convince her by promising to combine all the tanks into one... no more tanks sitting all over the house.. just one really nice tank!

I went from a 72 gallon and a 75 gallon upstairs, to one 180 gallon in the basement. With the extra space upstairs she got her "sitting room" she had been wanting. It worked for me!
