Fair price on coral?

My buddy is selling off his coral supply. He's offering a 15+ head Duncan and 20+ head green trumpet, $75.00 for both.

I am just getting started collecting corals. These appear to be fairly easy to take care of, so I think I'll give these a try.

Here is a picture of each:

Does that sound like a fair price? I've looked briefly online (liveaquaria, Vivid aquariums) and it looks like that's more than fair.

Being that both corals are pretty common, $75 seems a little high to me. Small frags are pretty much a dime a dozen around here, so it's just a matter of time before they get that big. JMO, GL.

From what seen here for sale for Duncans are ten bucks a head and same for trumpets it seems like a good price for a decent colony buys it's really up to you if you wanna pay that oruce

being a friend, he should just chop you 2 heads for $10. Then sell the small colony to someone else. grow your own coral is a lot more fun imo, save a lot of money too. My trumpet doubles every few months.

I'm not sure where these guys are buying corals, but I'd say $75 is a great deal for the size. True you could get frags and wait for them to grow, but for an extra $20 or 30 bucks you don't have to wait 8 months for a few heads to grow.

Thanks very much for the input. Now I know where to go in the future.

I went ahead and bought them. I am just starting out with corals, so I'm a little impatient to get things going. Plus, he's a very good friend of mine about to sell his entire setup, so I wanted to get it while it could be got. I also wanted to start with something on the simple side since I'm new to this. I'd rather give the money to my friend than a store, plus my LFS's coral prices are a little higher than most.

Our local reef club has a frag swap in a few weeks, so I'll get to try my hand with growing corals shortly.

Thanks again!
