Wrasse ID?

Wrasse ID?

Does anyone here have any ID on this one? Thanks, Marcye

I got it in from one of my wholesalers today. He couldn't ID it and knew I love Fairy Wrasses so he sent it along to me. Thanks for the ID. I'll look up more on that. Marcye

We do the same here with our wholesalers.

Wish I was nearby, I would love to have it to go with my female. See my post near the bottom of Page 17.

I can't find a single reference to the pintail. Do you have any specific places I can look? Do you have a pic of your female?

Wow, very pretty female. i guess I lucked out on this one. The last one he sent was a really nice Maori...I know, not a fairy, but gorgeous colors. He is just too good to me. Thanks again for the ID. He came in eating like a champ and is out and about all the time, so hopefull y he will do well. Marcye

There is not a lot of information on this species. It has a preference for deeper water, 60m or so and has been found at a few localities in the West Pacific. I am currently writing the scientific description for this species from specimens that I collected in 60m off Taiwan and specimens from southern Japan.

Wow...! I love fairy wrasses and carry many of those posted here, but I was really impressed with this fish, the pic really doesn't do its colors justice. I've spent all day trying to ID it. Thanks all for the info.

Can I get a copy of that when you're done? Not sure what I am going to do with the Pintail, but I would like the info either way. Thanks, Marcye

have you guys seen the girdled fairy pair over at liveaquaria's divers den?

Flat out awesome but $$$$$$$$

Someone should let them know that those two fish are not a pair, they're not even the same species. The upper fish is Cirrhilabus balteatus from the Marshall Islands, the lower fish is Cirrhilabrus katherinae from the Marianas, or possibly a variant from the Philippines.

lol. that is kinda funny. I wonder how they decided it was a pair... probably a wholesaler mistake. someone should let them know.
They will say "it was sold to us as a pair of balteatus, so we sell it as a balteatus"

quick question, if i'm keeping faries do i NEED a sandbed for them? Can I do BB and will they be happy with that? I'm not sure if these guys bury at nite.

Nice fish, you need insurance on that QT tank if all those rare Wrasses are in it.

Top; C. katherinae, young male, 7cm from Cebu. Probably not temminckii but this species.

Bottom; C. temminckii ? , yong male, 8cm from Vietnam. Undetermined but apparently close to temminckii.

Recent shipments from Cebu contain many unusual specimens like the upper fish that is superficially katherinae or an undescribed one that is closer to katherinae than temminckii, for it has a distinct black spot on pectoral-fin base.
