Bronco,
Several questions for you: 1. How does one get in touch with Brian? (I tried his website email and no reply for four days). 2. Any other recommended vendors for fairy wrasses? 3. What acclimation procedures do you use? 4. Are all of these fairy wrasses in your 135 gallon tank? 5. Is this any SPS, LPS, or fish only with live rock tank? Thanks ever so much.

Steve

brian is at the marshalls diving as of now i believe... He'll prob reply when he gets back.. hes catching more rhomboids that lucky a$$ :)

talked to him before he left. he said he will be bringing back some helfrichi firefish from Micronieshia. expect to see more of his deep water fish from there. it'll be at least three weeks before we hear from him again.

Thanks zemuron and tommy. Of course he is diving very deep and that means LOTS of deco time even on mixed gas. I hope he gets some great stuff as I am planning on ordering some fairy/flasher pairs or harems from him. I already have one Helfrichi and since they do not mix with other firefish, cannot get more. They are great fish though. I recommend them if you have a situation for them.

my wrasses..

can you guys tell me what stage these guys are? as far as I know the Carpenters, Solar, Exquisite are still juvy's.. am I right? I'm not sure about the Condes... I hope that they get more color on them as they mature..

Red Head Wrasse

Red Head Wrasse

Has anyone had much experience with Red Head Wrasses? I just picked one up yesterday and it is not doing to well. Seem very stressed since I have introduced to my 225 SPS tank. It had spent most of today under a rock just sort of laying there. Not sure what I can do but this would be a real bummer to lose such a pretty fish. Not to mention the $$$ it cost me!

AKA Halichoeres rubricephalus. Unfortunately they are either being caught by destructive means or being handled poorly somewhere in transport, but I don't know of a single one that survived more than about a week. I lost two and won't try again. It's too bad because they're spectacular fish.

BTW, they are NOT a fairy wrasse, so let's not spend too much time on them in this thread.

hey Marcel, I finally purchased one of those lyretail flasher wrasses that you were showing me at the store the other day. http://www.saltcorner.com/sections/zoo/fish/wrasses/paracheilinus/Pangulatus.htm

We got in a shipment from Sri-Lanka, and got some killer carpenter's along with mccoskers, and these guys seemed to be thrown in there like you were saying. The one I picked out is a small little guy, but once he was acclimated to my tank, his colors are alot more vibrant than at the store thats for sure!! lol!

Really cool fish, I love the yellow/greenish on his lyretail. So far I have One of these guys, and One mccoskers in my 75g.

How's that flame wrasse doing?

Guys (BRONCO especially), I am thinking of upgrading to a 180g tank from my 120... and thinking of maybe going bare bottom... any implications for my wrasses??

I have a solarensis, flame, yellowstreak, and severnsi... i think main prob would be the severnsi as I seem to remember he needs sand?

What about other fairy wrasses...In the future i might get a linneatus, a labouti, exquisite..

Do they HAVE to have sand bottom substrate or can they get away with just caves and bare bottom tank?

thanks
G

smokez01,

what is the difference in appearance of the carpenters and the mccoskers? the pic (a couple of replies up) look like the fish that I have seen labled as mccoskers even though the guy says that they are carpenters.

Just wondering as I purchased what was supposed to be a mccoskers the other day. It is really nice either way. I like it. I hope he makes it through quarantine into the display.

I am not a huge Labouti fan or have a huge amount of experience with them but I believe you have a juvenile or a female.

I am sure an experienced labouti keeper will speak up soon.

Can any tell me if this is a male or female Labouti? How can you tell the difference?

Thanks!

You have a juvenile male. I think the laboutei is one of the most beautiful of the fairy wrasses having owned many different ones. I have 5 inch supermale who is my center piece in my tank

mccoskers flasher wrasses have one straight top fin, like so:

this is a mccoskers from Melev's reef fish photos

this is a carpenters flasher wrasse, they have the same rounded tail, but instead of one top fin, they have three to four top spikes

Fairy wrasses don't use sand. Instead of urying to sleep they form a mucous cocoon to sleep in.

Is that the only difference... Cos i saw some at a LFS but it is labelled as Carpenter but only one spike....

quick question: I have a juvinile carpenter's or McKosker's (don't know yet as it is developing just one straight top fin) and just picked up a supermale blue flasher... will this cause a problem? I really love the blue flasher...

Thanks
Marvin
