Mr. Tanaka, how variable are Lubbock's in color? Mine is getting more and more colors as the days go on, and not looking like wrasseguy2's very much...

I just shot these pics.

Examples of variations of C. lubbocki, males.

1 changed its body color in 3 weeks to 1', 5cm long
2 is the most similar fish to yours, 5cm
3 with two dark stripes on side; mainly comes from Philippines.
4 is the colors of daytime, and $' is at night.
5 8cm long, the largest I ever saw
6 bluish dark phase
7 with unusual colors, 4cm
8 usual colors; 8' displaying, 8cm long
9 purplish blue phase, 55mm long; mainly from Indonesia

Wow, so the answer is "very variable" :D Thank you very much. Actually, #9 looks EXACTLY like mine. Blotchy purple, no blue, and the yellow extending almost to the tail. The pink spot on the foehead is neat too.

Hopefully one day I can get a picture of mine displaying.

My 2 are also like #9. Do the females look similar to the males? My two look the same (well, one has a bit more blue) and always hang out together. Can they kept in larger numbers?

Somewhere in this multi-post/page thread(s) for fairy wrasses there is a person with 5 or so in his tank, all getting along...

Thanks SDguy,

Females are overall red with a single black spot on caudal peduncle. Males lack this sot.

Females of C. lubbocki, flavidorsalis and adornatus are almost unidentifiable by appearance. Females of lubbocki are rarely available at shops.

I was lucky to find this at my LFS!

Tanaka, i just want to make sure that this Pylei from Vanuatu will get along with my Pylei from Sulawesi.

Here is the new guy before acclimating,

Here's my other pylei,

Thanks for your help,
Steven

i didn't think 2 males of same species would get along?

good luck though! both are very nice

I didn't think so also, but remember asking Tanaka if it was possible when i only had one and i believe he said yes. Now i have two and hope to keep them together :)

You got a pretty nice LFS Heuer... I noticed the McCosker/Carpenter in the other thread and love that sulawesi pylei wrasse!!

Any chance they have a website or ship to the West Coast?

I cant seem to find any place local that regularly gets top notch specimans of fairy wrasses.

If your two pylei's dont get along I'll make a good home for your sulawesi... :D

zemuron114,

I used a one-lens camera with negative films until June, and now I am using a one-lens digital camera (Canon Eos-Kiss).

Here is a recent shot of my largest tank (120x40x40cm) in a lobby at my clinic. Out-patients like angels and butterflies more than fairy or flasher wrasses so I need to have added these fishes. It is a very simple tank without any inverts but a living shell. All the white corals were collected in our area.

No fair...all I get to look at in the waiting room is a Home and Garden Magazine from August 2005 :(

Thanks all,

Come and see me when you feel sick with missing fairies..... I will prepare more fairies in stead of medical drugs.

Aquarists can keep them together healthy like this. I cannot kill any at my office.

is that a punctatus in the pic with the angels? I got some in from australia and they had barely any blue dots on them.. they fins were bright pink and blue and the tail was yellow, but the body was just grey... i was very dissapointed :(

Is that a aussie scotts or cook island?

zemuron114,

A very nice reef ! Such a scene would heal me everyday.

Yes, the biggest fish in the large tank is punctatus (from Vanuatu). It is variably colored and some are plainly colored. The Scotts' came from the Cooks.
