i think that one there is the whipfin or c. filamentosus..i had one before and mine displayed like crazy..nice fish lynn

Yep it's a c. filamentosus.

Anyone have a sure fire way to tell the difference between the female flavidorsalis, lubbocki and tonozukai. The lfs has a female of one of these but I have no way of determining what it is. It looks the least like a tonozukai from the pictures I could find. The lfs swears it is a red fin fairy wrasse. I have kind of been looking for a female to go with my male flavidorsalis.

As far as I experienced C. filamentosus, tonozukai, rubripinnis, rubriventralis, and species (from southern Sulawesi similar to rubripinnis) and another one from Kenya (similar to rubriventralis)are the most aggressive among the genus.

One of my C. condei (from the Solomons, 7cm) was very aggressive toward other males, but generally speaking larger males tend to fight in the tank.

A large C. roseafascia (male, 16cm) was very gentle, and did not show any aggressiveness with swimming so gracefully.

I bought this one yesterday. Could you wrasse experts ID him for me?

Brad,

you got a male of Cirrhilabrus rubromarginatus

Thank you, well I'll just have to keep a eye on him and see how it goes.
I find fish so fascinating. I have a solar and lubbocks in the tank now. This filementosus was quarantined with a exquisite and were added to the tank together (yesterday) The filementosus was out within a few minutes...swimming around and the exquisite went into hiding. The solar displayed at the filementosus and there was a few short matches...the filementosus coming out on top. From then on the solar didn't challenge him, but the filimentosus would have these like burst's of energy and go speed swimming around the tank flashing and dipping up to the surface and then down and across displaying. He wasn't really chasing the others...just kind looked that way ..but he would go straight for them and then past them. The did this to the lubbocks and solar...but when the exquisite came out he left him alone as he knew him from the QT. Thats the same with the solar and lubbocks...they were quarantined together and have been "best buds" in the main tank since added.
I sure hope there isn't a huge problem when I add my Scotts. Do you think there will be? Any precautions I can take first?
When a fairy wrasse display's ...is it called flashing? or is that reserved only for the flasher wrasses?
thanks everyone...this thread is great!!
cheers

I.D.?

I.D.?

I picked up two of these yesterday for a mere $14.99 I'm guessing they are female lubbocks??
Can you help do a forsure on them?
thanks
141143DSC_0003_edited-2.jpg anyone give me a forsure I.D.

Now that's worth it and then some! The black spot probably indicates a juvenile, but that's all I can offer. It's beautiful.

Oh, thats a happy surprise! Anybody got a good picture of a pair? The one in the saltcorner site don't look so good?
thanks

The LFS has one like that. I can't tell what it is either and I have a male flavidorsalis. The only problem is I don't like the price. They are selling it for $39. Do the female lubbucks have more white on the bottom?

The female may show C. lubbocki, flavidorsalis or adornatus. These three are almost unidetifiable superficially.

Just thought I'd do my good deed for the day and let any Los Angeles area fairy wrasse fans know that one of our LFS just got in a Laboutie Fairy Wrasse. I would have picked him up, but I just couldn't justify the $140 admission fee. Beautiful fish, just a little rich for my blood. I didn't have my camera with me, but here's a couple of pix of what they look like. If anyone is interested in this fish, pm me and I'll tell you where it is. This fish was everybit as good looking in person and no, I don't have any affiliation with the LFS other than buying many of my fish there, just want to see this fish go to a good home and help out fellow reefers in finding a very nice fish if they've been looking for one.

The just got some up here in British Columbia at a LFS. The price was 196.00 on them. I didn't buy one cuz I didn't want to spend that much money on a fish that I wasn't that crazy over ....these pictures are a lot better.

Concerning these 2 unidentified females or juv wrasses....the LFS did say they came from Indonesia if that helps.
Cheeks...they have absolutely no white or creme on their bellies.
H. Tanaka...maybe they are adornatus? do those come from that area?
thanks

I received 2 juvi Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis previously and they looked just like that. Don't know how they compare to other juvi Cirrhilabrus Sp. though.
