Beside that I love their colors , they are the workhorse of my reef. They are constantly in and out of my acros hunting for food and in the past they have eating AEFW's and monti nudi's. Since they are one of the smallest wrasses getting just over 3" long they make perfect fish for a sps reef IMO.

Plus they get along in big groups with multiple males. Unlike my other wrasses these males group together. My others get into scuffles every once in a while .

Where are you getting these healthy lubbocks? I had one that was fantastic and lost it in a pump then got another and it was obviously caught with cyanide. I would like to get another but I am afraid of getting another cyanide caught specimen. Cyanide is lame.

I get them 2 LFS's 1 store deals dirrect with a diver and the other thru a wholesaler.

I just got some really cool pics of my whipfin flashing has been doing this all day...it is really cool to watch this is the first time he has displayed like this for this amount of time...i will post the pics soon...also has anyone kept a conde's and if so how rare are they?

C. condei comes only from Vanuatu and is rare. I don't have one but I seem to recall they are one of the more aggressive Cirrhilabrus.

Ninong, what I observed is that I introduced two C. bathyphilus. One was past intermediate well along the way towards becoming male. The other one was presumably intermediate (juvenile female). The intermediate (juvenile female) passed the one that I presumed would become male and has become a supermale. The other one, that I originally thought would be male has halted its progression (as far as I can tell). I suspect I am not describing this well. The behavior of the supermale is now such that he herds the female.

I have many pairs/individuals/harems in my two tanks and have not yet seen this happen. The only thing close is within my harem of C. jordani where I have a supermale, a male who is changing and three females.

I was surprised that my male C.bathyphilus flashes and hangs out with my group of Dispar Anthias females. He pays way more attention to them than to the C. bathyphilus female.

my lfs is getting 2 new fairy wrasse in for me but was not able to get the latin name. As anyone ever herad the name red fairy used as a common name i thing it might be the red finned but not sure???

I have heard Red Eyed associated with C. solorensis and Red Finned associated with C. rubripinnis both of which are relatively common. If I were to guess, I would go with solorensis.

I've heard of Red-finned fairy wrasse (C. rubripinnis) and Red-margined fairy wrasse (C. rubrimarginatus).

I know its been posted somewhere on this thread before but can't find it. How much will rhomboid males fade without a female?

This got lost above. Anyone have any thoughts?

they dont fade much if at all. a very nice fish!!! In the first part of this thread (2 threads back) Bronco posts which fairies lose color. Ill see if i can find it!

Black-finned fairies

All these fish tend to lose their colors a bit if they don'y have a harem of females. When I say they lose colors its primarily their beautiful nuptial or courtship colors. Obviously without a mate to court the darker colored fairies (blue's/browns/greens) tend to
fade.

The in-between group - this means they may fade a bit but not alot:

Rhomboid Fairy
Pyle's Fairy
Pink-Margin Fairy
Goldbar fairy
Yellow-flanked fairy

Here are the fish that tend to keep their colors well, regardless of wether or not there is a harem:

Labout's
Flame
Social Fairy
Conde's Fairy
Lineatus Fairy
Yellowfin Fairy
Lubbock's Fairy
Rosy-fin Fairy
Orange Back fairy

(It seems to me that the fish that have the red-orange coloration or the hot pinks & yellows tend to keep their colors better than the blues & greens)

Please note that the fish listed in this post are the only fish I have had experience with or owned.......if a fish is not listed here, wether it be as a color fader or not, then I cannot confirm if they are faders or not.

Thanks Zemuron. I don't think I can afford both a male and female rhomboid so I was curious. That's the list I remember. Now I have to make up my mind on a rhomboid vs. another male lineatus(first one jumped).
