I'm up for a healthy discussion at our next pizza night on this article. With our fragswap coming up, I thought I'd stir up some discussion.

I've always thought it was interesting that we call it a frag swap, but really the only swapping being done is through the CDP tank. The author of that article calls it a coral flea market, which is really much more accurate. I love the events. There's not much more fun to be had in our hobby than to walk through the treasure trove of goodies on display under those blue lights.

I certainly haven't used the CDP to it's full potential, but I think it's one of the biggest benefits of being a club member. Amongst our own tanks, we probably have the ability to donate to other club members pretty much any coral that is for sale during our frag swap. I know there will be exceptions with rare or new pieces, but for the average guy, why spend your hard earned money on a coral that a friend already has?

As a club, I think it would be fun to seek out a piece or two at every frag swap that isn't already listed in the CDP, pool some money if needed, and get some new stuff into the mix.

The CDP has pros and cons. The pros is the attraction to free corals with paid membership, unless that has changed, which is what use to bring a ton of new members in. The cons lfs hate it, tracking, and the worst is the trust of the recipient doing as requested or someone donating green star polyps and wants a point for those

Back in the day the swap was just that with club members. Be it frags or equipment.

I couldn't agree more with it being called a coral flee market. How many vendors do we see selling the same stuff as another vendor or what they sold the last time. And really what kind of deal are you getting from that vendor?
And yes I'm sure that if the club members joined forces they could donate what the vendors bring and have one awesome swap

Not much for donations this swap? No tunze or Neptune advertisement. Or is the donations a secret as the swap date was [emoji2957]

Roger with Tunze hooked us up too. Omega One sent some fish food containers.
