Fallow tank

I've been putting this off ever since I introduced my Scott's Fairy without QT. He got spots, then my kole tang got spots. I finally removed them to a hospital tank where I'll be going the hyposalinity route....however I couldn't catch my yellow wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus). He buries himself in the sand, and searching through 4 inches of sand in a 180 is not something I want (or should....disturbing the sand bed) to do. He hid in the sand of my 55 when I upgraded for 3 days! How good will a fake "fallow" method work if I leave him in there? I know it may seem like a stupid question, but he's a sneaky little bugger. I'm not through with my stocking list, which is why I am doing this. Lesson learned, always QT! If I shouldn't leave him in there, any nifty tricks on how to catch him? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

From what I understand any fish left in there is/will be a host for ich and must be removed or you take your chances. As far as a trick for getting him out..I'm no help.

That being said, I have taken my chances and not removed my fish to treat letting them fend off ich but I have no plans to add anything anytime soon.

Not good, assume to be zero.

Hey Sandra! I know you from the wetweb forums. =) That's what I figured....but I really have no clue how to take him out. =(

Yeap that's me..simple use the same name..:) strainer through the sand? jk although it might work..Course that would involve removing all the rock work too..hopefully someone else will chime in..

I just went through the same thing and had two fish i couldn't catch, the yellow wrasse and the mystery wrasse. I tried traps but too wary. No point in leaving the tank fallow if you can't get them out. So i went to a fly fishing shop, got tiny barbless hooks and the thinest line i could get. Didn't feed the wrasses for three days then dropped in a could PE mysis, one with a hook in it. Caught both wrasses in one minute. No damage to mouths, in fact fed them in HT an hour later no problem.
