I bought two tiny clowns at same time , one got bigger than the other died, I want to get a eeplacement ? I think the bigger ones are female ? Should I go back to lfs and buy a tiny one ? Will that work ? I want a male and female ?

Clowns are hermaphrodites and can change their sex based on the population around them. I would attempt to get a fish close in size to your current one but im no clownfish pro.

depending on the size of your current fish.. i would go with a slightly smaller one..

+1 to getting a slightly smaller one, preferable sexually undifferentiated juvenile.

Clowns are sequential hermaphrodites. They are all born sexually immature male. The dominant one in any group becomes female, 2nd in line becomes sexually differentiated male, and the rest remain sexually immature male. If the female dies, the dominant male can turn female, and the next inline becomes sexually differentiated male. However, once female, they cannot turn back. If 2 females are present at the same time, they will probably fight to the death.
