Fan in the garage!

For those of you that are keeping your chiller in the garage, and are experiencing 100+ degrees in the garage...

I have a fan blowing full blast at the chiller, and I am leaving the door open about six inches..

It really helps in this heat!

some motors on chillers produce alot of heat. you are pulling alot of wattage and amperage on anything that cools. (stand beside a central heat and air unit with the air-conditioner on) depending on cycle time of the motor, it may only shut down for a few minutes a day. if its in a garage, the outside heat/tampurature also has an effect on the chiller itself. REEF-ON!!!

Just wondering, but how much "extra" does it cost per month to run a chiller in your garage? Ive been wanting to put a frag tank in my garage, but am not sure how much $$$ extra it will cost to run a chiller in the HOT months?

thanks, Mike:)

Frank, it's not hot in Newport Beach. Especially when you live within 100-150 feet from the Ocean!

You gotta understand Greg that when it hits 85+. Us beach people over here can't take it haha. I dunno how you do it haha, but I used to live in bakersfield which is probably around 110 now.

90 is hot for us beach people :) Ok we are a little spoiled :) There is no way I can have my chiller near the tank.. too damn hot and noisy....

I drilled a hole and ran the chiller into the garage, I had to use a mag 9.5 to get enough pressure for the line..

But when the garage gets hot it stays hot and the chiller keeps sucking in hot air... ( meaning efficiency is lost )

Get cooler air to the chiller and it will cool faster :)

Yup my prop tank hits 84 when the garage temp is 100. And that’s with the garage doors wide open and lights off. But then again I don’t have a chiller or fans. I manage to buy a fan just yesterday, it was a used window fan I got at the 97cent store. I've look all over so cal for fans and everyone is sold out. Good thing its starting to cool off I don’t think I can handle much or of this heat. So for I've only lost 10+ heads of xenia so I guess I've been lucky.

this has been a life saver for me this summer. i bought one of those 57.00 attic fans that works on a thermostat. it pulls so much heat out of the gargage it is incrediable. of course it is going non stop, but this has taken out the chiller heat in my garage with 2 tanks going. best non reef gadget i have bought yet for my set ups.

No reason to leave the door open but the fan sure helps
