fans on biocube making noise

ok ive looked up the number for oceanic and it IS 1 800 255 4527, but ive called and havent had any luck, says to try your call again... as for the email i sent to oceanic, they still havent replied....im starting to get really frustrated with oceanic right now.. :mad2:

if the fan noise is maybe a little growly ( definitely not good word or description) take the fan out. look for the little sticker on the fan, probably on back (motor part) remove the sticker is either just a bushing or a rubber plug. if plug remove plug put a drop of a lubricant (oil, silicone, olive oil, canola) on the bushing. put back together. should be no noise.... repeat as necessary

Well apparently there are no easy answers. I've taken the quick route and opted to not use the hood, but to place a 70watt DE HQI over the tank.

If I were to use the hood, I'd have to change the fans with higher quality (similar sized) computer fans.

I had the same issue with my 14g and for a short time the tapping worked, then when i added fish to it i felt bad tapping the top of the tank as i was stressing the fish. I called Oceanic customer support and they sent me replacement fans immediatly and they run amazing and a good 2 degrees cooler. Good Luck!

Oceanic sent me new fans. They also suggested using a felt washer between the hood and the fans which I did. Now when the fans come on they're noise for a few seconds then they get quiet (relatively). Oceanis must get alot of calls about this problem. I've seen alot of posts from people complaining about this issue.

what number did you guys call to get replacment fans? because the number that is posted above doesnt work for me...maybe cuz i live in canada??

ok just to let you guys know, i never got through with oceanic so i basically gave up, but now my fans stopped making noise....so it all worked out in the end i guess

when I ordered my hood from nanotuners . com, they had some lower db fans that were an option. maybe you can order better replacement fans there.

WE had the same problem with our bio cube 29...& what we did was take the sticker off the back of the fan and added 1-2 drops of olive oil in the hole and it was fix immiditly...Yayyyyy!!!!

I replaced my Fans

I replaced my Fans

Hey guys, wow this is an Old Post but If anyone still cares, I've had my BioCube for about 6 months and the fan that came with it was SUPER loud. like a rattle or something, I went to the local Fry's store (or just about any other computer store) and bought a 50mm fan which was a HUGE improvement! makes my biocube sound more modern instead of like an old beat up car.

Basically when you take the light cover off you just unplug the old fan from the main board and cut the conector from the old fan and solder it to the new one, use shrink wrap to cover the connections and just plug it back in to the main board. and thats it!

Look at the noise level the fan makes before purchasing it, some are louder than others but definetly not nearly as loud as the stock biocube fan.

Mine does this all of the time, the protein skimmer vibrates against the lid and the fan shakes. I just hit the top a few times and it stops.
