Yeah, but that's why my face looks this way.

Oh, you mean that derailment over here? :D We had our ears open for evacuation because that happened just like 3 miles down the road from us.

They must have left us out. lol

No, the only evacuation I heard of was a half mile radius around it. When they did the news the day of the derailment, the setup point they were broadcasting from was not even a full mile from the scene. Now, if it had been during the school year, things would have been REAL interesting, as there is a large middle school directly across the street from where this happened.

Oh man, I just read this on KSDK's website. I had NO idea that they had no plans in place in case of a major derailment on those tracks. They are so close to the school I figured somebody must have thought of the potential...especially since an old farmer was killed there a few years ago while crossing in his pickup truck. I was going to write the school board and ask about this, but I see now someone at least took notice:

"The derailment occurred about 200 yards south of the Triad Middle School. On a normal school day, 850 students use that facility. Triad Middle is also the location where the entire bus fleet for the district is stored. Triad Superintendent Mike Johnson says had the derailment occurred during a school day it would have created major problems. He adds they had no plan in place for a derailment, but will work on one now."

What's real interesting is I've live here for over 30 years and never any train derailments but just about 3 weeks ago they came along and replaced hundreds of railroad ties and now this happens makes you wonder if the job was substandard.
