Favia looks weird...

It looks very scaly and there is brown stuff coming out of it. Is that waste?

Do you test your system? What are your parameters and how steady has your salt been?

All my params are good other than nitrates they are sitting around 5-10 ppm but I just checked on it and its looking better. It was deff pooping but I didn't know they would shrink up a lot when they pooped so it scared me! Here is a pic of it now.

Temp: 79.8°F
Calcium: 410
Magnesium: 1290
Alk: 8.9
Nitrate: 5ppm
Phosphates: ~.03
pH: ~8.0

All tested with salifert

I can't tell for sure about scaliness or waste from your pic. I did see a brownish color on only one pic on a few of the tiny ridges on the outer ring of the polyp if that makes sense. I figured that was natural coloration. Hard to tell the pic. Your colony looks healthy to me. If its waste, it should move around or blow off if blown with a turkey baster or pump.

I feed them twice a week I've just never had it release it's waste in that way so it freaked me out!
