Nice, my first was a nikon d70. Make sure you get yourself a nice tripod and maybe a shutter remote.

looking back through this thread I have seen LOTS of the same or at least very similar favias all being called different names.. Such as "babys breath" Its posted here with any range of green>grey>light blue outside and any range of Red>purple>pinkish on the inside...
IF you need to call it a name, there needs to be some type of reference document.
My opinion is dont call it anything... its a grey and red favia etc...

That..and the BB is a fairly hard and/or expensive coral to aquire so when people finally get one they are proud to say "hey, look at my BB!!" and some dont care and dont know the scientific name so they just call it by the what the person who gave it to them does..

Lineage in this hobby is simply a traceable link to the person who originally named the coral in the first place. Conversational piece, elitism, comradery, a sense of place in the history of the hobby; call it what you will but it is what it is ..
With all due respect that piece which is a beautifull colony by the way looks more like what people refer to as christmas favia
I feel your argument but for me would go one even further as Im sure some have got the drift of in one of my many rantings..If one coral is labled by someone and goes for exorbant amounts of money along with a trend in popularity but by happen stance another distribution of the exact same mother colony in the wild comes in is it just as beautifull? Of course it's the exact same coral. Will it fetch the same dollar and name? No. Why? Because the people who are giving these names are collectors like you and me. Now if it was the harvestor that would be different and he could be sitting on an endless supply of true BB, BGM, PM or whatever.. Until that happens..
I say if you feel like you need to name something that has no name at least give it your own spin

Justin- your right.. Lineage does mean something to people in this hobby, but the fact is, that "original" colony isnt the only one in the sea, and it is no different genetically than any others..
(genetics play if it has been captive propagated for generations)
that colony in my pic is much less green and more blueish grey... just poor white balance on my end... However, I was only making a joke by calling it my non lineage BB..... maybe thats what I will "name" all my corals... I will put a NL prefix on it!
Hey- at least the prices in LPS arent skyrocketing the way they did with zoas...Im cool with names to identify, but lineage means nothing to me....

That is true. But are you going to do a genetic test to make sure it is the same? lol Lets be serious here, this arguement comes up a lot. Maybe you should start a new thread to see what people really think about this. Plus your coral looks very nice but nothing like the baby's breath.
