this looks like a micromussa minuta to me.....sweet piece whatever it is!=)

Now you got me thinking, it does look like Minuta from the picture, I know when I bought it it was listed as a favia but we know that's no gurantee. Hmmmm very Minuta like and very favia like....Jendub got anything you want to trade for it so you can study it upclose PM me, I am looking to trade/sell it to make more room in my tank, almost kills me to do it but I need the real estate in a major way

PS. it really is as bright and colorful as the picture represents, sweet piece picked up on ebay last year

ever since JenDub said Minuta I am really scratching my head, here is another shot to help determine

favia1-1.jpg

I live pretty close to you and I'm wondering if we got this coral from the same supplier. Mine looks identical to yours. I work at a LFS so I know what wholesaler this came from, mine anyway. Do you know the name of the wholesaler? Just curious if this is indeed the same thing. I'll post a picture in a few. Thanks.

Well I guess it's not exactly the same, my polyps seem larger or you just have more and have a different angle? I never noticed the "sparkles" until today. The other coral in the picture is from the same wholesaler.

Hey Rynon

I got mine from Mothers Reef in Parchment, I think they got it from A&M but can't be sure....

Yup, we have the same coral then :). It will be interesting to see the differences in the same coral. PM me anytime you want with pics or questions. I'm only a couple hours away from you. It is a nice coral, isn't it? I know it's not a BB or whatever but it sure looks similar. I work at Eco reef in Zeeland...near Holland if your not familiar.

Kev: hmm, try this "Blu-eyed Ocean Soul Favia.." Just my suggestion..
And is that ANOTHER BB?
SPS4mytank: Kudos on that Cabbage Patch! Love the pastels, somewhat like a Baby'sbreath though in a different part of the spectrum.

What? No takers? You guys are getting dull. I hope this is because everyone is on vacation. But I cannot, I have a reeftank, afterall.. LOL

Craiglander: That is AWESOME. Nice frag & nice shot!
Kev: OK, Green mist? Looks blue to these tired eyes.. Well, the centers anyway.

Matthew

Thanks, Believe it or not i actually had that piece under one 65 watt pc actinic for like 7 months and it was doing great! It was just a little experiment i was doing to see if i it was possible to keep some favias under less than adequate lighting. Turns out the answer is yes. It was a frag i cut off from the parent colony i have in my 90 gallon. I have since torn down the 30 gallon tank with the one pc light and have reunited that frag with mom in my 90...pretty amazing that it hasnt shifted color at all in either system.

Interesting, all of mine, except my mint-chocolate ( its dark brown & luminous teal) have gone color changes in my tank..
And my lighting is similar to yours, maybe just a tiny bit stronger.

Matthew

Kev,

Still no luck getting 'em in the gallery here. And I am having poblems uploading to Photoshop, too.
Any suggestions? I'll gladly take them!

Matthew
The frustrated photographer with many coral pics stuck in his PC..

Mark,

Hmm, well how do I upload my pics on Photobucket to start with? I can't find instructions or links to do it!
I'm going to go try the gallery again, here. Can I resize them here??

Matthew
BTW, thanks for your suggestion, this has gotten really frustrating for me!

Mark,

Hmm, maybe my Photobucket account isn't fully activated. I'll go work on that this evening. Maybe with a little luck & your help you all will actually see my Favia ( and the Platy too) here.
Thanks a ton!

Kev,

If for some reason I still cannot get my pics on, there is a pic by on the Scoly thread that shows an identical Favia to my chocolate one.

Sincerely,
Matthew

OK, well, I'm almost here. Got a pic to upload to Photobucket! But its bloody tedious with a dial-up modem, so it'll be tomorrow before anything is here..
Apologies to all, Ghost Hunters is coming on soon! LOL But I am learning this.

you still have dial-up?:hammer: and I am watching Ghost Hunters too! one of my favorite shows!

Dial up?! Even more of a reason to resize those images before uploading. On my Fotos page, there is a Image Resizing Tutorial page (left column) that will bring those multi-meg images down to 100k or so. Resize your images to 640 x 480 with the resizer, then upload them. It will be far less painful.

I thought you were in Texas. Dial-up - that's Kazakhstan, right?
