Favia vs favia aggression

I have had this favia for several years:

I just got a nice frag of dragon soul favia:

I was thinking of mounting it here:

The thing is, the rock is part of the reef base, so the coral will be un-fraggable as it grows nearer to the already established one. I know, I could just mount it to a smaller rock on top of the basem which is the smarter way to go...What are some of your experiences with 2 different favids close to or touching one another?

I don't have an absolute answer for you. Some seem to do fine together and some will be fine for an extended time and all the sudden unleash on each other. The DT at MY LFS has a very large centerpiece rock in their DT which is pretty much covered end to end with different favia species. It has been that way for at least a year now and nobody has stung their neighbor. However, they had 2 larger favias in another tank that went at it and one was completely destroyed.

If it were me, I would glue the DS favia to a small rock and glue that to your base so you can remove it if you have an issue (assuming you catch it in time ;)). You should be ok for quite a while as it will take some time for them to be close enough to do any damage.

Yeah, I figured as much. Our hobby is not one of absolutes -- anything can and will happen. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.
