Looking to purchase an ato gor my new build. Are the Tunze and Smart ato worth the money? Or should I use the apex BOB? Thanks for the input.

I've used the Tunze for a few years now. I just replaced the pump last month but I thought that was reasonable because I was using kalk in the ATO. Great product!

I did the home built one

I run a 10g container fed by my rodi/booster pump with a float that runs 30 min a day.

Then use aqualifter with ato to feed sump, using avast kalk stirrer.

I should have done this my first year of reefing. only took me 25 years to learn this.

I've got the regular Tunze on my 125G for about 2 years now, topping off with Kalk water and the nano one on my 12g at work for about a year. No issues yet with either one of them - I love them.

I think the best ATO is a mechanical float valve. It can be fed by your RODI system or by an aqua lifter pump. No electronics to fail of float switches to break. Much cheaper and more reliable.

I think if you have an Apex, no reason to not have it as the ATO controller with a few good quality switches. Advantage of the Apex, IMO, is that you can easily program multiple redundancies; which is ultimately the best way to avoid a failure. For example, I use three switches (one pressure and two float) to trigger my primary ATO pump, and have a second pump triggered form a further two floats should the first pump fail for any reason. May seem like overkill, but I have many thousands of $$ tied up in my livestock so a $100 or so for peace of mind is 'priceless'

I have a pair of the Smart ATOs running my pair of systems currently. When I jump to the multi-hundred system when I have a basement, I plan to run the Tunze system.

Apex, without a doubt. Mine is controlling topoff for two tanks and the info from the float switched can be used to shut down my auto water change setup.
