Favorite Clownfish?

What is your favorite Clownfish? I know the Picasso's and Onyx are extremely popular. I have mixed feelings about selective breeding but they do look cool.

I'm considering a pair of ORA Ocellaris for my 30G. Not sure on my 120. I was leaning toward the Cinnamon Clowns. I'm starting to like the Clarkii's too, but I'm sort of afraid of aggression issues with both so I don't know.

What is your favorite?

I like the picasso's, Naked, and black percula's but my favorites are my pair of misbar's in the picture to your left.

Actually those are all True Perculas including my misbars. Ocellaris aren't known to mutate their striping.

Well, for both of my tanks I'd like to get tank raised fish. Since my 30G will be mostly timid fish I will stay with some Ocellaris or Percula. My 120G is shaping up to keep semi-aggressive fish so I'd like to get something different. That is why I'm leaning toward the Cinnamon or Clarkii.

Semi-aggressive your going to want to look at Cinnamon/Tomato or GSBs. Clarkii aren't any more aggressive than your Percula or Ocellaris.

Do Clarkii get larger than Cinnamon? Fish like some Fairy Wrasse's and a Small Tang will be among the other larger tank mates.

Also, I read the Percula are a bit larger and a bit more aggressive than Ocellaris, would you agree with that? My 30 cube will have fish like a firefish, watchman goby, etc (very docile).

Clarkii can get about an inch or so larger than Cinnamon's.

My Percula are no more agressive than my Ocellaris are with anybody except the female picking on the male. Even then though it's only an occasional banging up against him till he submits which is pretty quickly now days from either species I have.

Now The Platinum Clownfish.

I was starting to like the Picasso Clown's but the further they take this selective breeding the more I think I will just stick with the original. As I seen someone mention on another thread, the natural beauty of these fish attracted me to SW to begin with. I would honestly buy a traditional Percula over this Platinum if the price was the same.

I will likely go back and forth on the Picasso before I decide, but I'll pass on the Platinum.

I had a clarkii that was the first clown I had it was a very dark black almost like an onyx with very bright yellow fins...I have never seen one that was that defined since but it was a beautiful fish but was much more aggressive than the gold stripe maroon clown I had.... aside from that I am a traditionalist....clown fish should be orange with white stripes and a little black....regardless of the breed.

Really, the Clarkii was more aggressive than the Maroon? Was it a white or gold stripped Maroon? The nicest Clarkii's I have seen were marked like your describing.

I have all be decided to get a pair of Ocellaris for my 30G but still trying to figure out what to get for the larger tank. I'd like to get something different, but all of the ones I like are supposed to be aggressive. The search continues...

it was a gold stripe.... and yes the clarkii was way more aggressive...came at you everytime you stuck your hand in the tank....

I have heard and read in several places that the Gold Stripe Maroons are much more peaceful than the white stripe. It doesn't seem right, but seems to be the case.

I thought about the Maroon's but I'm not sure I want a fish that gets that give in my 120. Hmm, got to think about it.

I have a white stripe maroon.. mine and my girlfriends favorite fish by far. We call her "flow".. because she stays in the flow of the water near the top of the tank

I've had both and didn't see much difference, my current gold stripe pair and the white stripe I had aren't truly "aggressive" but have strong personalities.
My current pair have shared a tank, without bloodshed, for 3 years with a skunk clown but only because it's a 7 fit tank I'm sure.
Just don't get your hand close to their nems you will lose blood.
Had to trade the white stripe several years ago because she was loving some stressed BTAs to death.

BTW that platinum clown looks diseased IMO but some people will buy into the hype, for what would have been a cull. ;)
