Favorite lfs

I know there is the thread about LFS's. I thought it would be a good idea to post a thread to put your favorite LFS.

I don't know if I will be able to add a poll later (I should be able to) if not I will start a list with a vote count. I am newer to the hobby and do not have a favorite yet as I am still making my rounds.

Honestly, the answer will differ by location (mostly). I have the rare opportunity to be in the middle point of the answers already given and they have their positive points and their strengths.

OP: What area would you say you live/work around? We can start directing you based on location, needs, and wishlist.

I'm in the west suburbs. I'm a short drive to tropiquatics and aquapros. I have been to both. I have also been to both aquarium adventures and sea escapes in south Elgin.

Reefwise, beyond the reef and old orchard aquarium are on my list to go to. I like checking out all the places.

I was more or less trying to figure out if there were others not so close that would be worth the drive.

Cool. I've been to trop and Apros is one of ma top lfs's. You should check out Advanced Aquatics and ask for a forum discount (not RC). That's the other AA.

Reefwise is definitely worth a trip. Brian is great. Old Orchard is $$ and a drive from where you are. Go to Sho-tanks if you're going to drive that far...otherwise Old Orchard is great to have a look-see given its size.

Ok is aquapros just the small garage looking thing in the back lot? Or is there more? Seemed very small with very little of anything.

I would say ..., but they closed for no good reason. So now I would say Sho Tanks in Mundaline.

FYI: That business is not welcome on here due to past violations. -Dino, RC Staff

+2 for Reefwise easily.

Don't get me wrong dave at aquapro's is awesome and he's always willing to frag something off for you at great prices which is great...But... reefwise just has it all together and everything really pops+ Brian is king and really cares about the livestock & customers.

Honestly kinda been disappointed with aquapro's the last few times i've been up there. I was going there when it was still a room before the garage move so I know first hand.

+ with the new softie tank setup and two more tanks on the way at reefwise....Really it's just unbeatable. And by "tanks" I mean huge setups.

SPS and fish are top notch
my 2 cents

For fish I like Steve in north Aurora, very nice selection of fish. For coral I like beefy.
Sea escapes in elgin has come a long way on coral. Check them out if you have not been there in the last two months. I have never been to reefwise or aqua, so can not comment.

I like Aquapros,Aquatica, Reefplus. All three have treated me very well, but you gotta go to all the shoos to know who has what because nobody has everything.

Totally agree with last comment about jumping hoops to see what people have. That's why i think dave and brian have it right and post things to facebook constantly. It's smart.

frankly reefplus and any other store that aren't doing it that way are kinda missing out and not keeping up with the times by doing so... also making it harder on the guys that have to drive a ways to get to an lfs unlike my spoiled self!

Old Town Aquarium, always have the best conversation with the guys there, they always have the best looking stuff, and always get me what I want if I can't find it anywhere else. The higher price is 100% worth it to me!

Had to run to the apple store in wood field yesterday. So I stopped by beyond the reef. Clean place, i did see a tank with a dead fish tho :( made me sad. I like that they are just salt water and they had a huge puffer fish in one of the tanks.

Thinking Saturday I will be making a trip to a further LFS. it is going to be reefplus, old town, sho tanks or reefwise... lol so its a toss up still.

I am a huge fan of Reef City Aquatics in Frankfort. Mark there always has some great deals on good stuff.

Oh, and hello again Ted!!! It's been a while :)
