I am partial to LPS because of the motion. I like that my tank looks alive (makes me feel less need for fish) and non-hobbyists such as my wife seem to as well (she lets me spend more money when she feels it looks nicer). I am really partial to the gold torch because it is such an uncommon color in this hobby the red of the goniopora is fairly common now but not many corals have polyps as unique (just my opinion).
What I try to avoid in this hobby is to have the same tank that many do. By this I mean, yellow fish and green corals. While I do have these I try to avoid falling in the trap of impulse buying them. I also try to avoid slow growing small frags (personally not a fan of a sandbed covered in frags. All just opinion though.
Hard to pick one favorite... LPS are my favorite type of coral... I'm big on acans and chalices... Here's a few of my favorite LPS that I have right now... =)
