Fayes O.R.A. SPS build thread.

I like ora and that means that you will not have any ocean collected corals. I love this idea and is what i am doing with my tank. It makes our hobby more sustainable.

lol they all came from the ocean at some point...Some of us are just trying to point out the fact that ORA is defnitely not the end all, be all of aquacultured frags.

I just like the O.R.A. corals that are offered, they seem to give you a nice size frag, and my tank isn't that big, so when I add the corals, a lot of what I want from O.R.A will fill the tank. I might get a couple of other pieces here and there. Especially pink lemonade acro. That is one of my favorite acros.

if you buy actual ora frags that came from ora, the pieces are quite larger, so they can actually come out at a lower price than buying those "micro" ora frags from reefers fragging their ora colonies.

This may be true for some of their more common, faster growing species, but I have seen plenty of smaller frags from ORA. Generally you are correct, but the size is still going to be determined by the rate in which the corals grows and how readily available it is @ ORA during the time in which they snip.

My lfs gets a lot of ora stuff, so i can choose first hand what i like instead of letting an online vendor make that decision.

Maybe its just me and the recent ORA pieces Ive seen but there frag sizes seem to be getting smaller. And not just on new/limited/slow growers but everything??

All the ORA stuff I have been getting has been 1 1/2 to 2 inches and multi branched. Oh and ORA has a good selection of captive breed fish and clams.

That's right. however for slower growing ones, you get "nano" frags from reefers.
ORA corals are completely encrusted (see allsps40 pics), so it's not going to be fresh cut frags when you buy them. On the other hand, micro and nano frags from reefers are usually fresh cut or just been mounted for a short time.

I love the look of marco rocks but I wish they would sell them in much larger more show sized pieces. I suppose some elbow grease to glue them isn't a big deal.

I actually think they're to big, than again I only have an 83 gallon tank.

Got in touch with the manufacturer yesterday, the tank has shipped!
