The eggcrate is like 10" above the sand with lots of room for them, while I was there one was going underneath and cruising around.

Cool, I would love to keep a ray again but it severly limits your selection for compatible fish and coral if the ray is fed properly.
How big are they, looks like 6" diameter?

Yea they were 6"ish. They are really cool in the negative edge tanks where you can view them from the top and sides, the one swam along the edge and was flapping over the side a little, pretty awesome.

Rays are very interactive and will let you hand feed and pet them once they know who you are. This in ground tank is amazing although IMO his stock list is not completely compatible with the sharks and rays he is keeping.
