i just put a feather duster in my tank like an hour ago and it has come out of its tube! why do they do that and is there any hope for him? what can i do?

I am a newbie so I cant give you an answer on your FD, but what I can tell you is that mine popped its crown off about 2 weeks ago and I figured he was dead, but it has been popping out once in awhile for the past few days and he sports a very tiny new crown. Did the whole worm come out or was it just the crown? I hear you shouldnt try putting them back in so I wouldnt try it until you get a more replies about it. Good luck, that sucks I like feather dusters.

Did you drip acclimate him? Are your water parameters good?

AAAAAaaa. It should be fine. Its all about any stress in the move. Most of the time it will be fine. Think of this.........There is a lot of changes in their natural habitat & their still ok....... They just went through a major stress move. Give it a few days

If you are talking about just the feathers dropping off, it can grow a new crown. Don't be concerned if it takes a week or even two before it starts growing new feathers. I had one that did that after I had to pry it off a rock and move it because the tube was bugging one of my corals. If the whole worm came out, I understand it can grow a new tube, but unfotunately it is very vulnerable to being eaten when it does not have the protection of the tube. Also, FYI, if you have a survivor, don't worry about adding anything extra to the tank to feed it. It will filter feed out of what is already in the water.

this morning (12 hours after the feather duster came out) all i see is the crown as of yet. could it have buried its body in the bed?

If I understand you correctly, the worm itself may well still be in the tube and will grow a new crown if you are lucky.

nope . worm is out too. i saw the entire thing on the sand bed yesterday. about 4-5 inches long with the feather still attached

i have TONS of the little feather dusters, when ever i move the flow or move a rock their on, they will exit their tubes. I think they may be moving to a new/better area to live... a spot with better flow and food.
