can to many feather dusters damage a reef system. ever since ive switced from my 30 to my 65 gallon tank i have seen an overgrowth of featherdusters all over my tank.
The larger ones seen for sale in LFSs eat a lot of phytoplankton sized bacteria or phytoplankton itself and very small particles. In this case, the addition of nutrients to boost up the stuff that is eventually eaten by the large feather duster may eventually cause the aquarium water quality to go downhill -if nutrient export is not done to counter the nutrient buildup.
