fedex!!!

I'm at work now, but my wife just messaged me saying how hungry the clowns look. The firefish is hiding in the rocks right now, but she can see him and he's still alive (sorry firefish if you're a girl)
Fire fish are usually fairly skiddish the first few days after shipping. I used to talk to the owner of my lfs about them before I had my tank set up. I had one on hold but he bailed out the night before I could get him :( haven't had the heart to get one since.

Sorry to hear about your experience OP! Glad everything is looking good for you so far regardless!

The two times I had live delivery using FedEx overnight (many more using UPS and one USPS - never again) they have showed up the next morning between 9-10 am both times.

First was delivered to Franklin from Oklahoma and the second was when I was living in Roxbury, shipped from SoCal. These were snakes mind you, but none the less alive and arrived in good time!

+1 on the MB reference :lmao:

im not sticking up for anyone here lol ive had issues from fedex when ordering from seadwelling out of L.A. broken boxes frozen fish and late orders but we still have used them, as far as livestock if you order from a good place they are usually shipped to withstand an extra day in case of these issues, but it suxs because its even more prone to death or ich, i would say a good drip acclimation will help if you receive them on the same day or even the next and corals usually can do better if they have enough water if not oxygen depletes quicker but that goes against everything ive been told because the more air in the bag over water actually gets them further so its a toss up i guess

I'd still rather FedEx over UPS (UPS has had a habit of delivering my packages to the wrong house). I'm upset because it put the lives of the fish in danger. But that's not what got me mad... what got me mad was them lying to me. Legit, I caught 3 seperate people feeding me lines of bull. I, like most people, understand that things happen; and the people you speak with on the phone most likely have absolutely nothing to do with a misplaced box, etc.. But once you start lying to me and making up crap, that's when I loose my cool. Just be honest with me.

Well one of my clown fish is swimming all around the tank, the other was hanging out at the bottom in the front but now he's hiding between a couple rocks. Same with the fire fish, he's been hiding most of the day. Corals seem to be doing well. Weird thing is I lost a shrimp today. I had a pair of skunk cleaner shrimp, one was always more active and ate more but the other seemed fine. Found him dead today. I can't get to him either because of where the rock is that he's half under. I checked my water again today even though I just tested it two days ago. Nothing out of the ordinary. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, Nitrate 2 ppm, phosphate is reading .25 ppm, but the only test kit I have for phosphate is api and I don't think it's actually that high. I'm going to get a different kit to be sure. I've only had the shrimp for about a week so who knows, could have just been a bad shrimp. Is the fact I can't get him out going to really screw with my levels? I'm assuming the bacteria in the tank will take care of any ammonia that's produced from him? Is this accurate? First saltwater tank so forgive me if that's a dumb question.

Having issues uploading a picture from my phone, I'll get a picture up tomorrow. It's not great but it shows the torch and one of the clowns

You sure that it didn't molt?

This... My wife freaked when she saw the severed shrimp head floating in the tank then all three showed up for dinner and we figured out one of them molted lol.

As for the Firefish they are super super shy and jumpy mine spends most of the day coming out for a minute or two then darting back into his hole over some imaginary threat. Dont worry to much about him.

Ok I think the fire fish is fine, he came out to eat this morning and is acting normal, I'm a little worried about the second clown though because I still can't find it

just ordered some stuff from fosters and smith... nothing important, regular shipping...took over a week to get here...we tracked it and turns out ups delivered it to the post office and regular mail service delivered it from there...never knew they did that....guess you get what you pay for with free shipping...just as well...last ups delivery we got a notice in our mailbox that the driver couldnt find the house(then how did he find the mailbox?) and we had to go to the terminal to pick up the package....got there and they cant find the package...half hour later they figure out its already been delivered....30 mile round trip for nothing...i wouldnt dare have anything live delivered...

I don't understand how a fish can just disappear? It's a 55g hex tank with about 50lbs of LR. There aren't that many places he could be hiding... I can't find him anywhere!

You'd be surprised. I've had a fish die and found hardly any sign of a carcass an hour later. They don't call it a clean up crew for nothing

Still no sign of the other clown; I spoke w/ Dave at Vivid, he was actually awaiting my call to see how things went with the shipment. He said he didn't need any proof (which is good since I can't find him) He's going to wait a week to make sure neither of the other fish die. If everyone else is still living next week he's going to send me out another clown. Asked how the other fish and coral were doing... take note FedEx, that's cust service! Thank you Vivid for being so easy to work with!

Sorry for the lousy pics, cell phone camera.... Plus I keep telling him to stay still so I can take his picture but he's not listening to me!

Wow! That's stand up customer service...

My next online purchase will be through Vivid.

Glad everything has worked out for you in the end, aside from the potentially missing clown due to shipping delays, things could have turned out a lot worse !

Fish look good! I don't want to be THAT guy, but are you planning on QT'ing new additions?

It is highly recommended, just my $0.02 :wavehand:

oh yeah, any new additions will be quarentined at this point. They were my first fish going in, plus I trust the items from Vivid. Anything can happen, but they take measures by quarentining all their livestock (I think Dave said for at least a month) before selling to customers.

While "Anything can happen", I serious doubt that Vivid QTs all (any) livestock for at least a month... There is no way that they have enough space and separate systems to do that!... Maybe things have changed, but in the past they would just drive to the wholesalers by LAX to pick up LS to fill customer orders.
If these fish have any 'pests', you have now put them in your DT, and QTing future fish may not help.
