fedex!!!

sorry. :( hopefully, the next one will do fine and you won't be dealing with a delivery debacle!!

Thanks, I think honestly think it was the shipping, the other fish appear to be fine and the corals are all doing well, opening up, good color... Thing that has me a little troubled is my wife called and said she found the other shrimp dead today. No, didn't molt, both shrimp have now died in the past 3 days... I didn't have them very long, maybe a week-week and a half... so who knows if there was something going on with them before that... my water parameters are good, everything else is doing well.... Are shrimp sensitive creatures?

shrimp and a lot of other inverts can be more sensitive than fish/coral if your water goes wonky for whatever reason. they can be the first to succumb to something that may not even effect your other inhabitants.

I'm still pretty much a newbie and I don't have enough data points to really say it with authority, but I have found that shrimp are MUCH more sensitive to acclimation than fish. With fish, I match sg and toss the fish into QT (after temperature acclimation, of course). I've never had a problem with this method with shrimp. But I've done this match and drop acclimation with shrimp and they usually die in a day or so (for me, at least) -- these were cleaner shrimp). Nowadays I don't drip acclimate shrimp, but I do it batch mode (temp acclimation, then dump bag into hang on container, add cup of tank water, remove cup from container and repeat once every couple minutes) and try to be finished in 15 minutes. I've found the batch mode works better for shrimp than simply matching salinity and dropping it in.

Thanks so much for the responses. I was told that since my snails and shrimp had been in shipping that it would put more stress on them by drip acclimating them since the ammonia would rise as soon as the bag was opened and exposed to air. My SG was the same as Vivid's (where I purchased them from) so I just temp acclimated them and dropped them in. I would like to get some more so next time I'll try the batch mode and see if they last longer than a week. Thanks again.

Same way I do it with inverts with the exception it tanks me about a half hour before they go in the tank. Mainly due to waiting about 5min between cups of water.

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update.... So far all other fish and corals are doing well (aside from my boring clown, see other post). I was going to call Vivid the middle of this week to talk to them about getting the replacement. Before I had a chance, Zac from Vivid called me last night to check on the remainder of my order. When I told him everthing else was doing well, he said if worked for me he could send out my replacement clown last night to be here for today....

Checked this morning, and it made its way without incident to Raynham, MA this morning and is on the truck for delivery! QT is all set up awaiting his arrival! Thanks again Vivid for such great service. You were completely professional about everything and I very much appreciate a company who contacts me to see how things are going rather than me having to chase them down. I have also called them on two occations with questions, one about my tank and one about a coral and they have taken the time over the phone to be detailed and help me with both of my questions.

:furious: Oh how I love FedEx ... seriously... they expect you to wait home for 12 hours ?!! Shipment put on a truck 8am and 30 minutes from my house this morning... 5 hours later ... no FedEx package...delivery by 8pm which is not overnight but more like a overnight + half day. Next time... UPS
