Feedback on my set-up? Seahorses arriving Tuesday!

Thank you everyone! So far they are doing very well and have settled nicely into their new home. They're also eating great!

...

Yes I do! Here's a schematic of the design:
Looks very cool indeed. So... what is the tank? Is this a Solana and you added the rear compartment? If so what did you make it out of - black acrylic pieces glued?

Space :)

The tank is a 30 gallon Oceanic Cube that I purchased used from a member of the local reef club. I cleaned it all up and redid all the silicone. The rear chambers are made with pieces of black acrylic that I had cut at a local acrylic store. I bonded the pieces of acrylic to each other with Weld-On (specifically made for bonding acrylic) and then I sealed the acrylic to the glass of the tank with silicone. It functions just like the back compartments on a Biocube or Nanocube, etc.

Time for some more photos!

They really love the red tree sponge :)

So I guess you would recommend Southwatch Seahorse? Anyone else have experience with them?
Great looking tank and horses.

Thank you! And yes, I would highly recommend Southwatch Seahorse. Their prices are on par with seahorsesource, but for colored seahorses. All of mine have been maintaining their gorgeous colors, so Southwatch sure knows how to breed some colorful seahorses. They're very healthy and all of them arrived in great shape after shipping all the way from Florida to California. The customer service at Southwatch is great and Jon (the owner) has been very helpful with answering my questions and helping me pick out my seahorses.

WOW! That tank looks incredible I have been planning a very similar build and I think you just made up my mind for sure. Do you have 3 or 4 seahorses in there now?

Very nice. I did not know that bright surrounding would keep horses brighter, but it makes sense.
Thank you! Yep, they change colors based on their environment, so usually a brighter environment will result in brighter colored seahorses. Like I said though, mine don't change color drastically, they just change shade a bit from day to day. They really do maintain their yellow coloring!

Thank you so much! Definitely start a thread for your build and let me know if you have any questions at all about mine. I have 4 female H. Erectus now. The last seahorse arrive early last week and has settled in well. She was the final addition to this tank, since I think it would be overcrowded with any additional seahorses. So the final stocking list is 4 female H. Erect and a mated pair of yellowhead jawfish.

I love having seahorses! They are an endless source of adorable amusement. I just finished the bedtime feeding a bit ago and Val was up to shenanigans :)

Notice her tail is wrapped around Trixie's neck. This is where Val hung out during the entire feeding. It was funny because Trixie just didn't care are all and just kept snicking up her shrimp like she didn't have a seahorse wrapped around her neck.

After I finished feeding, Val was the first brave seahorse to try out the new neon hitching post.

Beautiful!

I love seahorses. Fascinating critters, hard to believe they're fish! I had dwarf seahorses 30+ years ago when you could buy them cheap from an advertisement in the back of Mom's magazine.

You seahorses look great! I see on your Youtube video that you were feeding them one mysis at a time with forceps. Do you always feed them that way? Looks like a lot of work!

Thank you! They are so intriguing! It is so funny that you could order them from a print advertisement back in the day!

Yes, that is how I feed them twice a day, everyday. It only takes about 10 minutes, so its not too much work. I decided to do it that way because it means I don't have to feed extra food that will fall to the bottom and pollute the water. A bit more work up front means less frequent water changes, and less of a struggle to keep pristine water quality. Plus, its fun to interact with the seahorses at feeding time. :)

Let's get a new FTS! Are your grogorians all photosynthetic?
I'll try to get a new FTS either today or tomorrow. Yes, all the gorgonians are photosynthetic. I do however have two spiral wire corals, which are not gorgonians but people often confuse for gorgonians. One of them is the neon yellow one in last photo I posted. Those are NPS and I feed those a couple times a week. I also have several sponges which I feed phyto a couple times a week.
