Feeding a black and white clown

I was in one of the LFS yesterday. They had a mated pair of black and white clowns. They are pretty big like 2.5" to 3" I'd guess. Story is someone had their tank crack and needed to get fish out of it. They wanted $50.00 each for them and really wanted to sell as a pair. Then they said they were running a 30% off sale. So I paid $70.00 for the pair. They seem to be doing well. I'm wondering how much and how often to feed them. There are only 2 other fish in the tank (Kole Tang and Diamond Goby). Since the Tang and goby eat algae I've only been feeding in the evening. I alternate between Mysis and reef frenzy.

They also had an emperor angel from the same tank. It was huge, they wanted $250.00 for it and also said 30% off. I'm just not sure I'm ready for that expensive a fish yet and not sure about an angel in the reef tank.

Are you planning to breed the clowns? If so, you can fatten them up by feeding them 3x a day with high quality food. LRS now makes a "who's your daddy" blend which is specially formulated to condition the parents. Users are reporting bigger clutches. Otherwise feeding Mysis and Reef Frenzy should be fine.

No on the breeding. Being a daddy is way too much work.

Any chance they will eat pellet food? I have an auto feeder that currently is unused.

I really can't comment as I've never had a standard one. Mine have not been aggressive at all in my thank

I have 5 pairs of clowns (percula and ocellaris) and the Darwins are by far the most aggressive pair.

Were your's wild caught, Indo or African captive bred? I thought I read the ORA and other US bred black and whites were the exact same temperment as the standard orange and white Ocellaris.

I just currently enjoy seeing the goby's come out to feed and the Tanaka's wrasse come up to the glass when ever I approach the tank and fear adding something "semi-aggressive" will ruin that.

Towards you, tank mates or both?

They're in their own tank, but I can't put my hand in the tank or the female will bite me. She's drawn blood on a couple of occasions. The walls of the tank are blacked out, and during certain times of the day, she can see her reflection and she goes nuts.

The pair was given to me, so I don't know the lineage. However, since one is a misbar, I'm guessing that they're captive bred.

Thank you so much. Sadly I think that is another strikingly beautiful fish off the list. At least I didn't pay shipping and get attached to one yet.

Or... Do I sell the possum wrasse, Dracula goby, snapping shrimp, Yasha goby and forgo the helfrichi firefish and go with a super colorful semi-aggressive tank? Orchid dottyback, peppermint candy cane hogfish, BW Ocellaris, ?

My 4 inch female black clown is super peaceful but the 3 inch smaller male is the one that Chases the large angels out of their area where they lay eggs. The clowns have a 2 x 2' section that no other fish is allowed to go by. Even the 5 inch purple tang gets chased out if they're too close to the clowns Area... Black clowns are very aggressive!!

My black clowns were always peaceful. They were fine with gobies, cardinals, chromis, etc. I never had them go after me when I worked in the tank either.
