Marley & Me
Ellie my baby girl (not so much a baby any more) is a very healthy eel. Never had an injury or problem. I got her at around 6 inches 2 years ago and she is now 18+ inches.
Does that growth seem fast or normal to you?
She is like a puppy, begging for her food. Swimming crazy when I feed the fish and not her. I feel like I want to feed her more...but as with any animal, should I suppress my desire and ignore her begging?
Currently I feed her about twice a week, the equivalent of 3-5 large silversides and other various seafoods. She wants to eat 3 times a week though. She is pretty fat. She lives with just a few small fish and though she "chases" them a tiny bit when she is out swimming with them, it does not seem serious like she wants to eat them. She has bumped her nose on them hundreds of times but never bit. (I know she could eat/kill any of them, she just has not yet).
And finally, is there a life stage where they should be fed more or less often? I would guess she is about half grown. Is this a time of plentiful feeding or just 'normal'?
I really love Ellie, and just want to do right by my girl.
(disclaimer, I know it is not possible for me to know if she is a girl or not
& she was named after my favorite book heroine from Tomorrow: When the War Began. Ellie the eel was coincidental
)
And when she was just a wee wittle tyke. Please excuse the overstocking. Foxface and Tang were for ridding some algae. Foxface went back to his own home and tang is going to her new home now. Tank is a 65 and will have just Ellie, tiny clown goby, tiny ruby red dragonet and sleeper dragon goby for the long-haul.
