Feeding an anemone

It it ok to feed an anemone cooked shrimp? I can find bags of cooked peeled shrimp at my local grocery, but not raw ones.

i dont think you should. you can get mysis and other frozen foods from your lfs.

Ok, thanks for the input. I have frozen mysis, brine, ect so I will stick with that. I just wanted to give him a "treat" of somethin more substantial

no problem. some people don't even feed their anemones at all.

my gbta is 3"

Silversides, all three of my bta's really love silversides. My only attempt to feed my nems table shrimp seemed to really stress them out. I do not recommend it.

SilverSides are the best way to go when feeding an anemone. Although I do sometimes give my carpet anemones meat from a scallop which they do seem to enjoy.

I am currently feeding it silver sides but I am not sure how much i should be feeding it. I am currently feeding it about .5" of silverside 1-2 times/week...

For years I fed my huge sebae and LTA silversides w/out issues, but just recently I had a bad exp w/ them.
Fed my new LTA's(fairly small) silvers and watched them regurgitate, release foot, and turn inside out, melt.
Not sure if I got a bad batch, or they were too small to deal w/ bones or what.
All I know is I'm over em, they do just fine w/out spot feed as long as light is good, and they PU mysis at feeding time.

I had a similar experience about a year ago with silversides, and stopped using them. Now I only use frozen (( thawed )) krill. I feed maybe once every 3 weeks, I think that people tend to feed too much, but that is only my opinion. Also, it is easier on the anemone to feed smaller pieces, no matter what you use.

If the BTA is large enough .5" works fine, couple times a week is perfect. My larger BTA gets the whole silverside, two of them actually, he's all grow'd up, so he eats like a big boy ; )

I agree 100% with this. I can't seem to find the page right now, but there was a website talking about nem feeding, specifically with BTA's. They found that with large foods such as whole shrimp or silversides, it takes more energy to digest the very large piece of food than the energy they get out of the actual digestion.

Also, don't feel like you necessarily have to feed your BTA. I have 5 RBTAs in my tank right now. The only food they get is passive when I feed the tank, or when my Clarkii's give it a treat during meal times.
